Killing Floor 2 costs €29.99 on the Microsoft Store. This morning HRKGame sells the European Xbox code for €2.71 with fees, and in 982 days of tracking that game on Xbox we had never seen it that low. That is the extreme case, but the pattern holds across most of this list: post-apocalyptic games on Xbox are cheap once they have a few years behind them, and the newer ones are where you need to be careful.
We have picked fifteen games that carry Steam's Post-apocalyptic tag and have an Xbox page with live offers on Gocdkeys: shooters, open-world RPGs, a mech game, a couple of co-op titles and some survival and tactics. Each one comes with its Steam user rating for the PC version (Xbox has no public review score to compare), the Microsoft Store price where we have it, and the cheapest Xbox code we found today. If you play on PlayStation, there is a separate guide to post-apocalyptic games on PS5.
Two things before you click. The format we recommend is the Xbox Key, a code you redeem at microsoft.com/redeem or on the console, and the game stays on your account. Almost every page also shows an Account for less: that is a login to somebody else's Microsoft account that already owns the game. It is not yours, and if the seller takes the account back you lose it. We quote the cheapest one so you know what that low figure is, but our recommendation is always the code. The second thing is the region. Thirteen of the fifteen codes below are European or Global; Dead Island 2 and Darksiders III are listed as US codes, which may not activate on a European account.

| NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 | 88% | – | €17.98 (Driffle, Europe) |
| Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon | 91% | – | €27.95 (HRKGame, Europe) |
| Darksiders III | 75% | €39.99 | €4.41 (Eneba, US) |

| Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden | 89% | €34.99 | €30.19 (G2A, Europe) |
Microsoft Store prices are from the Spanish store and carry no fees. A dash means we don't have the official price for that game.
Shooters for the end of the world
DOOM Eternal
Demons have taken over Earth and you are the one sent to clear them out. id Software built the whole game around moving forward: you get armour by setting enemies on fire, ammo with the chainsaw and health from close-range kills, so hiding behind a wall gets you nowhere. It is the most demanding shooter on this list and also the best rated by players, with 91% positive out of 187,609 Steam reviews.
Eneba has the European Xbox Key at €7.89 with the coupon Gocdkeys10 (€9.11 with fees). The Microsoft Store asks €29.99. It has been cheaper before, on 240 of the 437 days we have tracked, so this is a normal price rather than a low one. Difmark sells an Account at €4.44 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€4.64 with fees).
Crysis 3 Remastered
New York is covered by a giant dome and the city has turned into a jungle with skyscrapers sticking out of it. Prophet goes back in with his nanosuit, which lets him turn invisible or harden his armour, and a compound bow that many players end up using more than any gun. The campaign is short, six or seven hours, and it was always more about the setting than the story. Steam: 88% of 7,761 reviews.
This is a good day for it. Gamivo has the European Xbox Key at €6.73 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€7.96 with fees), against €29.99 on the Microsoft Store, and in 511 days of history it has only been cheaper on three. The Account on Difmark is €1.13 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€1.18 with fees).
Killing Floor 2
Up to six players hold out against waves of Zeds, the monsters left behind by a biotech experiment gone wrong in Europe, and at the end of each match there is a boss. Between waves you buy weapons with what you have earned. There is no story to speak of. It is a game to play with friends, and with a full team it is still a lot of fun: 88% of 87,200 Steam reviews are positive.
HRKGame's European Xbox Key is €2.31 with the coupon Gocdkeys12 (€2.71 with fees). The Microsoft Store charges €29.99, more than ten times as much. Difmark's Account is €1.01 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€1.06 with fees), and saving a euro and a half is not worth giving up the game.
Sunset Overdrive
The only cheerful apocalypse on the list. An energy drink has turned most of Sunset City into orange mutants and you survive by grinding on rails, bouncing off cars and shooting home-made weapons, one of which fires vinyl records. Insomniac made it as an Xbox One exclusive and it was a cult game from day one. On Steam, where it arrived later, 90% of 12,097 reviews are positive.
G2A has the European Xbox Key at €6.46 with the coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€6.75 with fees), and it has only been cheaper on 58 of the 341 days we have on record. We don't have its Microsoft Store price. Difmark's Account is €2.81 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.94 with fees).
Dead Island 2
Los Angeles under a zombie outbreak, played in first person and mostly with melee weapons you modify on workbenches: a machete with electricity, a hammer that sets things on fire. The gore system strips enemies down to the bone as you hit them. It is light on story and heavy on humour, and players are more divided than with the others here: 77% of 23,479 Steam reviews are positive.
Check the region before paying. The cheapest code is G2A's at €4.39 (€4.68 with fees), but it is a US Xbox Key for Xbox Series X|S, and US codes don't always activate on European accounts. Difmark's Account is €3.35 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€3.50 with fees). We don't have the Microsoft Store price.
Dying Light: The Beast belongs here too, and its Xbox code is at a good price this week: Eneba sells the European Xbox Key at €25.07 with the coupon Gocdkeys10 (€27.77 with fees), against €69.99 on the Microsoft Store. We have written about it separately, so you will find the rest of the offers on its Xbox page.
RPGs where you explore what is left
Fallout 4
Two hundred years after the nuclear war, you come out of Vault 111 into the ruins of Boston looking for your son. The map is huge, the side quests are often better than the main story, and you can spend dozens of hours building settlements out of scrap. It is the game on this list with the most reviews by far: 81% of 290,824 on Steam are positive.
G2A's European Xbox Key is €6.32 with the coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€6.61 with fees), a third of the €19.99 the Microsoft Store asks. It has been cheaper before, though: the usual price for the code is €5.17 (without fees). If you want to play it now, you can buy Fallout 4 key at today's price. Difmark's Account is €2.65 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.77 with fees).
Atomfall
Rebellion sets it in the north of England, in a quarantine zone around a nuclear plant, a few years after the real Windscale nuclear fire. There are no quest markers: you collect leads by talking to people and reading notes, and you decide which faction to trust. It is shorter and smaller than Fallout, closer to an investigation with combat. 76% of 4,567 Steam reviews are positive.
Today is not the day. The cheapest code is Kinguin's European PC / Xbox Key at €28.80 with the coupon OCTGOC10 (€31.44 with fees). The Microsoft Store charges €59.99, but the usual price for the key is €16.44 (without fees) and it has been cheaper on 160 of the 161 days we have tracked. G2A sells an Account at €12.16 with the coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€12.45 with fees). We would set a price alert.
ELEX
A meteorite has wiped out most of life on the planet Magalan and four factions fight over what it left behind, a substance called elex. Piranha Bytes, who made Gothic, give you a jetpack and an open world that does not adjust to your level, so the first few hours are hard. It is rough around the edges and many players never get past that: 72% of 12,447 Steam reviews are positive, and the critics gave the PC version a 67 on Metacritic.
Kinguin has the European Xbox Key at €6.62 with the coupon OCTGOC10 (€7.50 with fees). The Microsoft Store charges €39.99. Difmark sells an Account at €2.35 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.46 with fees).
NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139
The remake of the first NieR, set long before NieR: Automata. A young man looks for a cure for his sister in a world that seems medieval until you start to see what is underneath. Combat is fast action with magic, and the real ending only opens if you play it again, because the second playthrough changes how you see the story. 88% of 21,550 Steam reviews are positive.
The Xbox Key we would go for is Driffle's European one, €16.97 with the coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€17.98 with fees). We don't have the Microsoft Store price. Difmark's Account is €4.87 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€5.09 with fees).
Mechs, Horsemen and co-op shooting: Armored Core VI, Darksiders III and Remnant
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
FromSoftware goes back to mechs. You are a mercenary on Rubicon 3, a planet burnt out by a disaster decades ago, and you take jobs from corporations that want the substance buried under its surface. Between missions you build your machine piece by piece, and some bosses stop players for hours, as you would expect from the studio. It is one of the two best-rated games here, with 91% of 67,092 reviews on Steam and 86 on Metacritic.
HRKGame has the European Xbox Key at €25.79 with the coupon Gocdkeys12 (€27.95 with fees). In 169 days of tracking it has only been cheaper on two. There is no Microsoft Store price in our data. Difmark's Account is €15.53 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€16.23 with fees).
Darksiders III
Fury, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, crosses a ruined Earth hunting the Seven Deadly Sins with a whip. It is more hack-and-slash than the first two Darksiders, with exploration that opens up as you get new powers. Gunfire Games made it before Remnant, and you can tell. Players are lukewarm: 75% of 12,552 Steam reviews.
It is a strange page. Eneba's Xbox Key is €3.56 with the coupon Gocdkeys10 (€4.41 with fees), but it is a US code. Difmark's Account costs almost the same, €4.19 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€4.38 with fees), so the account saves you nothing. The Microsoft Store asks €39.99.
Remnant: From the Ashes
A third-person shooter with Dark Souls rules: checkpoints that respawn enemies, a stamina bar and bosses you learn by dying. The Earth has been overrun by the Root, a sort of plant-based plague, and you travel to other worlds to find its source. It can be played alone, but it is designed for three players. 84% of 47,340 Steam reviews are positive.
Gameboost has the European Xbox Key at €6.84 with the coupon GCDK13 (€7.16 with fees), against €39.99 on the Microsoft Store. Difmark's Account is €2.39 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.50 with fees).
The sequel, Remnant 2, is in our guide to souls-like games on Xbox. Its European Xbox code is at G2A for €10.38 with the coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€10.67 with fees).
Surviving and rebuilding: State of Decay, Generation Zero and Mutant Year Zero
State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition
Here the zombies matter less than the group. You manage a community of survivors, each with their own skills and moods, and if one dies they are gone for good. You go out for food, medicine and fuel, and every trip is a risk. It is the remastered version of the Xbox 360 original with its two expansions included. 82% of 10,537 Steam reviews are positive.
Kinguin has a Global Xbox Key at €4.37 with the coupon OCTGOC10 (€5.07 with fees), a quarter of the €19.98 the Microsoft Store asks. Kinguin itself also sells an Account at €2.80 with the same coupon (€3.37 with fees).
Generation Zero
Sweden at the end of the eighties, and the people have disappeared. In their place there are machines that hunt you through forests and farms. You play in first person, alone or with up to three friends, and the fun is in preparing ambushes against robots that lose parts as you shoot them. It is repetitive and players say so: 75% of 29,151 Steam reviews are positive.
G2A sells the European Xbox Key at €4.29 with the coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€4.58 with fees). The Microsoft Store charges €29.99. Difmark's Account is €1.67 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€1.75 with fees).
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
Turn-based tactics in the style of XCOM, with one difference that changes everything: you explore the map in real time and can approach enemies without being seen, take out stragglers in silence and only fight on your terms. Your team includes a duck and a boar who talk like old soldiers. 89% of 13,327 Steam reviews are positive.
Wait for this one. G2A's European Xbox Key is €29.90 with the coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€30.19 with fees), barely five euros under the €34.99 the Microsoft Store asks. The usual price for the code is €12.98 (without fees), and it has been cheaper on 1,072 of 1,199 days. Difmark sells an Account at €2.51 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.62 with fees). Set an alert and come back when it drops.
A few more you might be looking for. ARC Raiders, the Embark extraction shooter, has a European PC / Xbox Key at Gamivo for €21.58 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€23.33 with fees), against €39.99 on the Microsoft Store; its offers are on its Xbox page. The Long Dark, survival in the Canadian cold, is at Gamivo for €15.59 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€17.13 with fees), on its page. And if you like the idea of rebuilding a city after the disaster, Frostpunk 2 and They Are Billions are in our city builder guide for Xbox.
Which to buy this morning and which to leave on alert
Five of these fifteen cost less than €6 with fees as an Xbox code: Killing Floor 2 at €2.71, Darksiders III at €4.41 (US code), Generation Zero at €4.58, Dead Island 2 at €4.68 (also US) and State of Decay at €5.07. Fallout 4 is just above at €6.61, and if you only buy one game from this list, make it that one. For a shooter, Crysis 3 Remastered at €7.96 and Killing Floor 2 are at prices we have rarely seen; for the second you can buy Killing Floor 2 key straight from its page.
Armored Core VI at €27.95 with fees is the most expensive game we would still buy today, because it has almost never been cheaper. Atomfall at €31.44 and Mutant Year Zero at €30.19 are the opposite: both have been much cheaper for most of the time we have tracked them, so they go on alert.
Prices checked on the morning of 3 October.
