Kingdom Come: Deliverance II costs €69.99 (no fees) on the PlayStation Store today. In May we recorded it at €29.99 (no fees), less than half. That gap is the reason for this guide: a lot of the best medieval games on PS5 go on sale every few months, and on PlayStation the store where you buy matters as much as the price.
We have picked fourteen games that carry Steam's Medieval tag and have a PS5 page on Gocdkeys with live offers: four big open-world RPGs, three souls-likes and a sword-fighting multiplayer game, three story-driven games and three about building and ruling. The PlayStation Store only shows star ratings with no written reviews, so the ratings below are for the PC versions: the share of positive Steam reviews and, where our database has it, the Metacritic score shown on Steam. When a game has neither, we say so.
| Game | Steam (PC) | Metacritic | PlayStation Store | Cheapest PS5 account, with fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt | 96% (832,300) | 93 | €24.99 | €5.23 (Difmark) |

PlayStation Store prices carry no fees. The last column is the cheapest offer we found this morning, and in almost every case it is an account, not a code: read the next section before you pay for one. Every account below is listed as global.
PlayStation Store, PSN code or account: what you are actually buying
On PS5 there are three ways to get these games. Buying on the PlayStation Store puts the game on your own PSN account, with no fees. A PSN code from another shop does the same once you redeem it, but for these fourteen games they are rare, and they are tied to a region: a US code will not redeem on a European account. The third option, the Account, is what fills the cheap end of almost every PS5 page. You get the login of someone else's PSN account that already owns the game. It never appears on yours, and if the seller takes the account back, the game goes with it.
We quote the cheapest account for each game so you know what that low number is. When the PlayStation Store is only a couple of euros above it, as with Thymesia or Howl, it makes no sense to give up the game for that difference.
Open-world RPGs: The Witcher 3, Kingdom Come II, Crimson Desert and Skyrim
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Geralt of Rivia looks for Ciri across a continent at war, with the Wild Hunt on her trail. Velen is muddy and poor, Novigrad is a city of spies and witch hunters, and the Skellige islands feel like another game. The PS5 version is the updated one, and the Complete Edition includes the two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which many players rate as highly as the main game. It is the best-rated game on this list: 96% of 832,300 Steam reviews are positive, and it has a 93 on Metacritic.
The PlayStation Store sells the Complete Edition for €24.99 (no fees). It is a fair price for over a hundred hours, but not a low one: we have recorded it at €7.49 (no fees). Difmark sells a global account for €5.00 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€5.23 with fees). If you are not in a hurry, set a price alert.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Bohemia, 1403, and not a single dragon. Henry of Skalitz rides into a civil war between two royal brothers, and the game asks you to live like a man of his time: you have to eat, sleep and wash your clothes, and sword fights depend on the angle of each strike. Kuttenberg, the silver-mining city in the second half, is one of the most convincing medieval towns in any game. Warhorse's sequel is far more polished than the first: 93% of 145,574 Steam reviews are positive, Metacritic 88.
Today is a bad day to buy it. The PlayStation Store asks €69.99 (no fees), and the lowest we recorded was €29.99 (no fees) on 12 May. Key4Games sells a global account for €13.75 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€14.57 with fees). When it drops again you can buy Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 key from its page; for now, an alert is the better move.
Crimson Desert
Pearl Abyss, the studio behind Black Desert, made this one as a single-player game. You are Kliff, one of the Greymanes, a mercenary band wiped out by the Black Bears, and you cross the continent of Pywel to find the survivors and rebuild the company. The five regions can be explored in any order, with sieges, faction quests and two more playable characters later on. It came out in March and 83% of 116,360 Steam reviews are positive. We have no critic score for it in our data.
This is the one game on the list with a real PSN code: CJS-CDKeys sells it for €61.28 (no fees), but it is a US code, so it only works on an American PSN account. On a European account the option is the PlayStation Store at €69.99 (no fees). The code has been as low as €50.97 (no fees) in August. GamesPSN has a global account for €23.92 (no fees).
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Dragons are back, you are the Dragonborn who can absorb their souls, and the province is split by a civil war between Stormcloaks and the Empire. You can ignore all of it and spend fifty hours joining guilds and wandering mountains. Our database has no Steam rating for it; the reference is the 94 on Metacritic for the original PC release.
Check the edition. The PlayStation Store sells the Special Edition for €9.99 (no fees) and the Anniversary Edition, which adds the Creations content, for €54.99 (no fees). For most people the first is enough. Key4Games has a global account for €7.44 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€8.00 with fees), only two euros less than the real thing.
Souls-likes and swordplay: Thymesia, Asterigos, Tails of Iron 2 and MORDHAU
For more games in this style, there is a separate guide to souls-like games on PS5.
Thymesia
The kingdom of Hermes is rotting from a plague, and Corvus, who remembers nothing, fights his way through it with a sabre and a claw. The claw steals the enemy's own weapon for a moment, a scythe or a greatsword, and you use it against them. It is short, about ten hours, and hard. OverBorder Studio is a small team and it shows in places, but 82% of 8,301 Steam reviews are positive.
The PlayStation Store has it at €7.49 (no fees), the lowest price we have on record. Key4Games' global account is €6.06 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€6.56 with fees). Saving less than a euro is not a reason to choose the account.
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars
Hilda, a young warrior from the Northwind Legion, enters the cursed city of Aphes looking for her father. The setting borrows from Greek and Roman myth more than from European castles, and the combat is a gentler souls-like: you carry several weapons and switch between them mid-combo. 78% of 2,561 Steam reviews are positive.
Don't buy it at today's price. The PlayStation Store asks €34.99 (no fees), and we saw it at €3.99 (no fees) in June. The global account at Key4Games is €22.44 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€23.62 with fees). Set an alert; this one comes back down.
Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter
A 2D action game where everyone is an animal: Arlo, a young rat, has to defend the frozen north against an invasion of bats. It looks like a hand-drawn children's book and fights like a souls-like, with parries, heavy attacks you have to read and bosses that take a few tries. 79% of 1,874 Steam reviews are positive, Metacritic 77.
The PlayStation Store charges €24.99 (no fees). In July it was €9.99 (no fees), so this is another one to wait for. Key4Games sells a global account for €16.17 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€17.09 with fees).
MORDHAU
Online medieval combat in first person. Two armies with swords, maces, halberds and bows, and a combat system where feints and ripostes matter more than how fast you click. The first few matches are a lesson in humility, and then it gets very funny. 80% of 91,674 Steam reviews are positive, Metacritic 81. You need PlayStation Plus to play online.
The PlayStation Store price is €39.99 (no fees). Key4Games has a global account for €28.31 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€29.73 with fees); for a game that lives on its online servers, we would not risk an account.
Medieval stories: Pentiment, Resonance and Romancing SaGa 2
Pentiment
Obsidian's adventure about a murder at an abbey in sixteenth-century Bavaria. Andreas, a young illustrator, has a few days to find out who did it before an innocent man is executed, and you will not have time to follow every lead. There is no combat at all. The art imitates illuminated manuscripts, down to the handwriting each character uses. It is the second best-rated game here: 95% of 9,269 Steam reviews, Metacritic 88.
The PlayStation Store asks €19.99 (no fees). In July it cost €9.99 (no fees). Key4Games' global account is €12.13 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€12.88 with fees). If you can wait for a sale, buy Pentiment key when the price on its page goes back to ten euros.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
Asobo's new Plague Tale is set fifteen years before Requiem and follows Sophia, the pirate from that game, on the Minotaur Island. Expect stealth and puzzles with a Minoan sphere that bends light, plus a story that jumps between the Middle Ages and the island's ancient past. It came out on 27 August, and 92% of 4,046 Steam reviews are positive.
The PlayStation Store asks €59.99 (no fees), but we recorded it at €38.99 (no fees) in mid-September, so it has already been cheaper. GamesPSN sells a global account for €29.38 (no fees). If you only know the earlier games, Requiem is still on the PS5 page for A Plague Tale: Requiem.
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
Square Enix remade a 1993 Super Famicom RPG that never came out in Europe. You rule the empire of Avalon over several generations: when an emperor dies, you pick the heir and carry on the war against the Seven Heroes. Turn-based combat, a lot of freedom and very little hand-holding. 93% of 3,968 Steam reviews are positive, Metacritic 82.
The PlayStation Store has it at €23.99 (no fees), the lowest price we have seen for it. Key4Games' global account is €19.41 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€20.46 with fees). There is more in this style in our JRPG guide for PS5.
Building a village, ruling a kingdom: Medieval Dynasty, The King is Watching and Howl
Medieval Dynasty
You arrive in an early medieval valley with nothing: you hunt, farm and build, and as people move in your camp grows into a village. When your character gets old, your son takes over, which is where the name comes from. It is slow and very relaxing once you get the hang of it. Our database has no Steam rating or critic score for it, so we cannot give you one.
The PlayStation Store has it at €17.49 (no fees), below the €21.99 (no fees) it usually costs, and the lowest we have recorded is €14.58 (no fees) in March. European PSN codes from other shops cost more than the PlayStation Store today. Key4Games' global account is €14.15 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€14.99 with fees).
The King is Watching
A kingdom builder with one rule: buildings only work while the king is looking at them. You have a five-by-five grid, a gaze that covers only part of it and waves of enemies on the way, so every turn is about choosing what to watch. Each run is short and different. 88% of 9,154 Steam reviews are positive.
The PlayStation Store asks €14.99 (no fees), and in September it was €11.99 (no fees). Key4Games sells a global account for €9.70 with the coupon GOCDKEYS7 (€10.35 with fees).
Howl
A plague spreads through sound and turns whoever hears it into a beast. The heroine is a deaf girl, immune to it, who goes looking for her brother. It is turn-based tactics in which you plan several moves ahead and then watch them play out, drawn like a picture book. It has only 77 Steam reviews, too few to mean much, but 96% are positive, and it has an 82 on Metacritic.
The PlayStation Store sells it for €2.99 (no fees). Difmark's global account is €2.51 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.62 with fees). At that price, buy the real thing.
What we would buy today and what to leave on alert
Four of these are already at a good price on the PlayStation Store: Howl at €2.99, Thymesia at €7.49, Romancing SaGa 2 at €23.99 (all three the lowest we have seen) and Medieval Dynasty at €17.49, below its usual price. Skyrim's Special Edition at €9.99 is also hard to complain about. All five carry no fees.
The rest are better on alert; the earlier prices we quote here are historical and without fees. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II at €69.99 has been €29.99, The Witcher 3 at €24.99 has been €7.49, Asterigos at €34.99 has been €3.99, and Pentiment and Tails of Iron 2 have both been €9.99. If medieval on Xbox is what you need, our Xbox medieval guide covers a different set of games.
Prices checked on the morning of 4 October.
