2K has put end dates on NBA 2K25. The game leaves the digital stores on 30 October, and its online services close on 31 December, according to the official NBA 2K support site. After that, only the offline side of the game keeps working. This morning a Steam Key for PC costs €13.52 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€14.98 with fees) at Gamivo, while Steam still asks €69.99 (no fees).
The two dates in 2K's notice
The notice is called "NBA 2K25: Server Sunset" and was last updated on 2 October. From 30 October the game can no longer be bought. The online services stay up until 31 December, and from 1 January anything that needs 2K's servers stops working. If you already own the game, 2K says you can still download it again and play the offline modes.
This is the usual yearly cycle for the series. NBA 2K27 has been on sale since 4 September, and if you are trying to decide between the newer editions, we went through what changed between NBA 2K27 and 2K26.
What still works offline from January
Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA survive. 2K's general table of online services also lists MyLeague, MyGM and the 2KU tutorial among NBA 2K25's offline modes. MyCAREER and MyTEAM disappear, together with online matches, Online Leagues and community sharing, which is where custom rosters and other players' creations come from.
You will also no longer be able to earn VC, the virtual currency. That should put you off buying any now: VC is what you spend on your MyCAREER player and on MyTEAM, the two modes that are going, and 2K confirms that it cannot be carried over to another edition of NBA 2K, 2K27 included. Whatever you buy has until 31 December to be used.
The cheapest PC copy and why a key matters more here
Gamivo has the lowest key: €13.52 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€14.98 with fees), Steam Key. Against the €69.99 (no fees) on Steam, that is 79% less with fees included.
There is something cheaper at Difmark, €7.55 with coupon Gocdkeys (€7.89 with fees), but it is a Steam Account. An account does not put the game in your library: you play on someone else's profile and lose it if the password is changed. With this game it is an even worse bet than usual. Once the servers are off, NBA 2K25 is only worth its offline modes, and the one thing 2K keeps for owners, downloading it again whenever you like, only helps if the game is on your own account. A key gives you that.
How the key price compares with its history
Our history figures are without fees or coupons. A key cost €34.48 at launch, it usually goes for €14.89 in the stores we track, and the lowest we have recorded was €5.01, in May last year. Set today's €13.52 with coupon (€14.98 with fees) against that €14.89 median (no fees or coupons) and the €5.01 low, and it is an ordinary price for NBA 2K25, not a clearance one. We have no data that tells us whether the delisting will push key prices down or up. If you would rather wait for something closer to that low, you can set a price alert, keeping 30 October in mind.
Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Switch
On Xbox the cheapest key is at Kinguin, €5.18 with coupon OCTGOC10 (€5.94 with fees), Xbox Key. Its usual price in our history is €5.85 (Xbox Key, no fees or coupons). Key4Games sells an account for €3.83 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€4.25 with fees), Account. On Switch, Cdkeys Com has an eShop Code at €8.29 (no fees), a little above its usual price, and Key4Games an account at €5.71 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€6.22 with fees), Account.
PS5 is the odd one out. The cheapest PSN Key is €31.50 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€34.76 with fees) at Eneba, against €79.99 (no fees) on the PlayStation Store. GamesPSN offers an account for €6.78 with coupon GOCDKEYS16 (no fees), Account. The gap is huge, but the problem with accounts described above applies exactly the same.
Who should still buy NBA 2K25
It makes sense if you play against the CPU: a franchise in MyNBA or MyGM, a career in The W, or a quick game on the sofa with a friend in Play Now. All of that keeps working after 31 December, and at around €15 with fees for the PC Steam Key, or less on Xbox and Switch, it is a cheap way in.
It does not make sense if what you are after is MyCAREER, the City or MyTEAM. You would get less than three months of play, any VC you spend dies with the servers, and NBA 2K27 already has those modes running. If that is your game, look at the new one, and at how much VC each edition of NBA 2K27 includes.
Buying a key after 30 October
Some stores may still have keys after the game leaves the official stores, but there is no guarantee those keys will activate later, on Steam or on any console. We have found nothing official on this. If you are going to buy it, the safe option is to do it before the 30th, and in any case to redeem the key as soon as you receive it instead of keeping it for later. You can compare every store on the page to buy NBA 2K25 key.
