If you are halfway through A Plague Tale: Requiem on Game Pass, you have until 15 October. That day it leaves the catalogue on console, PC and cloud, together with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Pacific Drive, Evil West, Crime Scene Cleaner, Donut County, The Casting of Frank Stone and Nova Roma, which is PC only. Until then members get a discount of around 20% to buy it from Microsoft. Whether that is your best move depends on where you play and how much the save matters to you.
Keeping your save means buying Microsoft's version
Game Pass saves live in the cloud on your Xbox profile, not on the subscription. Buy the same game from Microsoft and the save is waiting for you the next time you launch it, provided you were online the last time you played. That covers the Xbox Series X|S version on console and the Windows version you run through the Xbox app on PC. The Xbox store does not list Xbox Play Anywhere for Requiem, so make sure you buy the version for the machine you actually play on.
The member discount comes off the Microsoft Store price, which we see at €59.99 (no fees) in the Spanish store. Even 20% off leaves it close to €48. On console a key costs far less: Kinguin has it at €13.41 with coupon OCTGOC10 (€14.83 with fees), Xbox Key for Series X|S, EU region. You redeem it on your own account and get the same Microsoft licence, so your cloud save should load as normal.
The Xbox offers below that, starting with Difmark at €1.99 with coupon Gocdkeys (€2.08 with fees), are Accounts. The game sits on someone else's profile, not yours.
Moving to Steam is cheaper, but the save stays behind
On PC, Steam is the cheap route. The best key today is at Itemku for €10.59 (€11.46 with fees), Steam Key, while Steam itself charges €14.99 (no fees), Steam Key.
The problem is the save. The Xbox app and Steam keep their own saves and do not sync with each other. Some players copy the files from one folder to the other by hand, and it has worked with other games, but it is not an official method and we could not confirm that it works with Requiem. If you are near the end, finish on Microsoft's version. If you have only played a couple of chapters, starting over on Steam costs you a few hours and saves you money.
There is one offer cheaper than the keys: Driffle at €8.37 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€9.07 with fees). It is a Steam Account, so the game never lands in your library and you play on an account you do not control.
Is €10.59 a good price for Requiem?
It is an average price. €10.59 is exactly the median we have logged for keys of this game, and the lowest was €4.80 at the end of September two years ago (both store prices without fees). If you are not playing it on Game Pass right now and can wait, set a price alert on the product page instead.
Critics gave the PC version 82 on Metacritic.
Which version to buy before 15 October
Playing on an Xbox Series X|S with a save you want to keep: the console version, either from the store with your discount or as a key. Playing on PC and close to the credits: the Windows version from Microsoft. Playing on PC and happy to start again: Steam. All PC stores are on the page to buy A Plague Tale Requiem key, and the console offers are on our Xbox page for A Plague Tale: Requiem.
Prices checked on the morning of 4 October.
