The same question comes round every year, and this time it has an unusually clean answer. NBA 2K27 ships in three editions, and almost everything separating them is VC — the currency you spend building your player in MyCAREER. Card packs and a few days of early access make up the rest. Since 2K will happily sell you VC at any point after launch, in whatever quantity you fancy, working out whether an edition is worth the jump comes down to arithmetic you can do in your head. Here is that arithmetic, along with the point where the PC offers for NBA 2K27 stop matching 2K's own naming.
What you actually get in each edition
| Edition | VC included | What else comes with it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | The pre-order bonus only | Just the game. Nothing bundled on top. |
| Deluxe | 100,000 VC, plus the pre-order bonus | Early access, a MyTEAM bundle with a team selection and a run of card packs, and a MyCAREER bundle of skill and stamina boosts. |
| Ultra | Everything in the Deluxe plus another 35,000 VC | A season pass, a summer pass covering later seasons, a guaranteed high-rated card and a second guaranteed card further down the calendar. |
The pre-order bonus is identical across all three, and that deserves a second look: book the cheapest edition and you receive exactly the same bonus VC as somebody booking the most expensive one. What the extra money buys is contents, not a bigger reward for ordering early.
Early access is the only part you cannot pick up later
It opens roughly a week before release and comes attached to the Deluxe and the Ultra. Everything else inside those editions turns up again by other routes — the passes and packs reach the store eventually, and VC you simply buy. The days are the exception. Miss that week and it is gone; no purchase in December brings it back.
Not every platform gets every edition
This is the first entry in the series to drop the previous console generation outright, which also does away with the cross-generation bundle that used to take the sting out of the decision. On top of that, the Deluxe and the Ultra are digital-only and do not reach every machine: the Switch 2 version is sold as the Standard and nothing else, while the Xbox version and the PC one carry the full range. Worth knowing on PC: the code is a Steam activation, full stop, so there is no rival storefront to weigh it against.
One offer per edition and format
Filtered down to the cheapest offer for each combination. Ten near-identical entries for the same Deluxe would tell you nothing.
The Standard is currently cheapest at Gameboost, and the Deluxe starts at € (with coupon GCDKGamivo).
Store labels do not use 2K's names
The edition name on a reseller's page is whatever that seller typed into the box. Something 2K calls one thing goes on sale under another, and the top edition drifts furthest of the lot. So never buy on the name alone: open the description, find the VC figure and check whether the pass is in there. Those are the parts that genuinely differ.

Questions worth settling first
Does the VC transfer if I switch platform?
No. Your VC, your player and your card collection all sit on the platform you bought on, so an edition chosen for one machine is spent on that machine.
Can I sell the bundled cards in the auction house?
Cards tied to an edition are normally locked out of resale, so treat them as something to play with rather than something to flip.
Is the top edition always on sale?
No. It is a limited run that leaves the catalogue shortly after release, and that is the only genuine deadline anywhere in the line-up.
How have the editions moved on price so far?
Edition by edition and platform by platform, the record is on the NBA 2K27 price comparison.
So which one
The Standard covers anyone who turned up to play basketball. The Deluxe and the Ultra are really VC purchases with a game attached, and they only pay off for players who were going to spend that VC either way. Once you have settled on an edition, you can buy NBA 2K27 key from the full price list.
