Seventeen detective games have a PS5 version in our price comparison, and this morning we went through every offer on each of their pages. The way we picked them is simple: Steam tags them as Detective, they have a PS5 page on Gocdkeys, and players rated them well. The two Duck Detective games share an entry, so there are sixteen sections below.
The tag covers a lot of ground. You'll find deduction puzzles where cases are solved by filling in blanks with words, two street brawlers from the studio behind Yakuza, a top-down police simulator, a first-person shooter drawn like an old cartoon, Japanese mysteries with trials and courtrooms, and a handful of point-and-click adventures.
About the reviews: PlayStation has no public score that works like Steam's, so the verdicts we quote come from the PC version of each game on Steam.
Account, PlayStation Store or disc: what you get on PS5
Anyone used to PC prices will spot the difference straight away. Resellers hardly carry PSN keys for these games, so in 15 of the 17 the cheapest offer is an Account: the login to a shared PSN account, owned by someone else, that already has the game. You play through that account, and the game is never added to yours.
Owning a copy means one of two things. The PlayStation Store sells the digital version straight to your own account, at the listed price with no fees. The disc comes from Amazon, Fnac or Media Markt, and on a few of these games it's the cheapest way in. For every game we give the PlayStation Store price and, where there is one, the cheapest disc or PSN Key. We lean towards a copy that stays yours; the account prices are there so you can weigh it up.
Pure deduction: read the scene, name the culprit
The Rise of the Golden Idol
The Rise of the Golden Idol, from Color Gray Games, is deduction with nothing in the way. Every case is a frozen scene: you examine it, pick up the words and names it gives you, and reconstruct what happened by filling the gaps in a written account. This one is set in the seventies. Very Positive on Steam, 92% of 3,791 reviews.
The PlayStation Store sells it for €19.99 (no fees). The only cheaper option is a shared account at Difmark, €11.75 with coupon Gocdkeys (€12.73 with fees).
Duck Detective: The Secret Salami and The Ghost of Glamping
Duck Detective: The Secret Salami, by Happy Broccoli Games, is a short, funny deduction adventure. You play a duck who works as a detective, and you crack the case by completing his deductions with the right words. Very Positive, 94% of 6,128 reviews. The sequel, Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping, scores even higher with Steam players: Overwhelmingly Positive, 96% of 2,579.
At €9.99 (no fees) each, they share the lowest PlayStation Store price in this guide. The Difmark accounts cost €5.03 with coupon Gocdkeys (€5.45 with fees) for The Secret Salami and €5.87 with coupon Gocdkeys (€6.36 with fees) for The Ghost of Glamping, so owning them costs €4.54 and €3.63 more with fees.
Shadows of Doubt
Shadows of Doubt, by ColePowered Games, does without hand-built cases. It generates a whole city procedurally, and the cases, the clues and the people who live there change from one playthrough to the next. It's a first-person sandbox with plenty of stealth, and after Mouse: P.I. for Hire it has the most reviews in this guide: Very Positive, 82% of 14,662.
It's one of two games here where an account isn't the cheapest offer. Amazon DE sells the disc at €9.99 (no fees), less than the Difmark account at €15.53 with coupon Gocdkeys (€16.23 with fees) and €15 less than the PlayStation Store at €24.99 (no fees). Mind the other discs, though: Amazon ES asks €29.61 and Amazon FR €29.99, both with no fees.
Pentiment
Pentiment is Obsidian Entertainment's illustrated narrative adventure, set in sixteenth-century Bavaria. You are Andreas Maler, an artist who gets drawn into a string of murders, and it's up to you to decide who you believe is guilty. Only BROK the InvestiGator and the second Duck Detective score higher on Steam: Overwhelmingly Positive, 95% of 9,244 reviews.
There are just two offers today: €19.99 (no fees) at the PlayStation Store, or €12.59 with coupon Gocdkeys (€13.64 with fees) for a shared account at Difmark.
Streets and patrols: Yagami and a rookie cop
Judgment
Judgment comes from RGG Studio, the team behind Yakuza, and follows Takayuki Yagami, a lawyer turned private detective, around the streets of Kamurocho. It mixes investigation with action and street fights. Very Positive on Steam, 93% of 9,430 reviews.
The shared account at Difmark costs €21.83 with coupon Gocdkeys (€22.81 with fees), and the PlayStation Store asks €39.99 (no fees). The discs sit in between: €25.03 at Amazon FR, €25.23 at Amazon UK and €34.96 at Amazon DE, all with no fees. The Amazon FR copy costs only €2.22 more than the account with fees, and the game on it is yours.
Lost Judgment
In the sequel, Lost Judgment, Yagami is back on a case that revolves around a high school. Same studio, same score: Very Positive, 93% of 7,477 reviews.
No game in this guide has a bigger gap between disc and PlayStation Store. The store charges €59.99 (no fees), the highest PlayStation Store price of the seventeen, while Amazon DE sells the disc at €18.99 (no fees). That's €41 less for a copy you own. Only the shared account at Difmark is cheaper, at €7.64 with coupon Gocdkeys (€7.98 with fees).
The Precinct
The Precinct, by Fallen Tree Games, puts you in uniform as a rookie officer in Averno City, an invented city in the eighties. It's an open-world police simulator seen from above: patrols, chases, arrests. Very Positive, 87% of 7,859 reviews.
Your own copy costs €29.99 (no fees) at the PlayStation Store. Kinguin also has a PSN Key at €29.70 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€32.41 with fees), but it's a US-region key that only redeems on a US account, and with fees it costs more than the official store anyway. Amazon DE has the disc at €34.95 (no fees). Shared accounts start at €14.36 with coupon Gocdkeys (€15.01 with fees) at Difmark, with Kinguin just behind at €14.94 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€16.48 with fees). If you've made up your mind, you can buy The Precinct key or account from its page, where every offer is listed.
Noir, a mouse with a revolver and a young Sherlock
Mouse: P.I. for Hire
Mouse: P.I. for Hire, from Fumi Games, is a first-person shooter in the film noir tradition, drawn in black and white like a rubber-hose cartoon from the thirties. You play Jack Pepper, a private detective who happens to be a mouse. Nothing else in this guide has as many Steam reviews: Very Positive, 93% of 14,677.
It's also the only one of the seventeen without a PlayStation Store price in our comparison, so a copy of your own means the disc: €29.99 (no fees) at Fnac ES or €31.99 (no fees) at Media Markt ES. The shared accounts cost €19.31 with coupon Gocdkeys (€20.18 with fees) at Difmark and €21.11 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€23.14 with fees) at Kinguin.
Nobody Wants to Die
Nobody Wants to Die, by Critical Hit Games, is a noir detective thriller in a futuristic New York where death has become avoidable. Very Positive, 83% of 5,830 reviews.
The PlayStation Store sells it at €24.99 (no fees). The accounts are much cheaper, €4.19 with coupon Gocdkeys (€4.38 with fees) at Difmark and €7.51 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€8.46 with fees) at Kinguin, which leaves €20.61 with fees between the cheapest account and a copy of your own.
Sherlock Holmes Chapter One
Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is about a young Sherlock on Cordona, a fictional Mediterranean island you explore as an open world. It's the only game here that Steam rates Mostly Positive: 77% of 4,200 reviews.
It also has the cheapest offer in the whole guide, a shared account at Difmark for €3.77 with coupon Gocdkeys (€4.08 with fees). G2A sells another account at €13.45 with coupon GCKG2AU1M4D (€13.50 with fees). The PlayStation Store wants €44.99 (no fees), which is steep for this one; a price alert on Sherlock Holmes Chapter One will let you know when it drops.
Japanese mysteries: courtrooms, trial mazes and a demon summoner
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy
Capcom's Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy collects three courtroom games from the Ace Attorney series. In each case you investigate first, then take witness testimony apart in front of the judge. Very Positive, 88% of 3,272 reviews.
It's the only game in the guide with no account at Difmark. The cheapest offer is a shared account at Kinguin, €36.46 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€39.71 with fees), while the PlayStation Store asks €49.99 (no fees). With €10.28 between them, we'd pay the extra and keep the game.
Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus
Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus comes from Spike Chunsoft, the creators of Danganronpa. You play an apprentice detective with a shinigami for company, and the mysteries are settled in trials that take the form of labyrinths. Very Positive, 80% of 2,170 reviews.
The PlayStation Store sells it at €29.99 (no fees), €5.86 above the Difmark account with fees (€23.09 with coupon Gocdkeys, €24.13 with fees). On this one the disc is the pricey route: €47.63 (no fees) at Amazon DE.
RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
ATLUS's RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is a remaster of a Shin Megami Tensei spin-off starring a demon-summoning detective in Taisho-era Tokyo. Very Positive, 93% of 1,048 reviews.
Along with Shadows of Doubt, this is where the disc beats the account. Amazon FR sells it at €21.50 (no fees) and Amazon DE at €22.96 (no fees). The Difmark account costs €25.19 with coupon Gocdkeys (€26.32 with fees), and the PlayStation Store €27.49 (no fees).
Point-and-click adventures
BROK the InvestiGator
BROK the InvestiGator, by COWCAT, is a point-and-click adventure with beat 'em up fights mixed in, and its hero is an alligator detective. It has the best score in the guide: Overwhelmingly Positive, 97% of 988 reviews.
Here a reseller's PSN Key is the cheapest way to own the game: €11.55 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€12.82 with fees) at Kinguin, for the Europe region. The PlayStation Store asks €19.99 (no fees), and the Difmark account is €6.71 with coupon Gocdkeys (€7.01 with fees).
Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged
Revolution Software's Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: Reforged remasters the point-and-click classic with George Stobbart and Nico Collard, which gets going in Paris. Very Positive, 93% of 956 reviews.
The PlayStation Store has it at €29.99 (no fees), and the disc at Amazon ES costs more, €39.99 (no fees). The Difmark account comes in at €20.15 with coupon Gocdkeys (€21.06 with fees).
Syberia: The World Before
Syberia: The World Before, from Microids Studio Paris, is an adventure with Kate Walker that tells two stories set in two different eras. Very Positive, 89% of 4,071 reviews.

Two games get you a copy of your own for less than an account: Shadows of Doubt on disc at €9.99 and RAIDOU Remastered on disc at €21.50, both at Amazon and both with no fees. That's where we'd start. Lost Judgment is the other disc we'd go for (€18.99, against €59.99 at the PlayStation Store), and Judgment on disc at Amazon FR is only €2.22 more than its account with fees.
The two Duck Detective games (€9.99 each at the PlayStation Store) and BROK the InvestiGator (€12.82 with fees as a European PSN Key) cost less than €6 more with fees than their accounts, so we wouldn't bother with the shared login there. The one we'd hold off on is Sherlock Holmes Chapter One: €44.99 at the PlayStation Store against €4.08 with fees for the account is a €40.91 gap, and setting an alert costs nothing.
