Eight games are dropping out of the PlayStation Plus catalogue in October, and Silent Hill 2 Remake is the one people will notice. Sony hasn't put a day on it and we're not going to guess one, so treat the whole month as your deadline. When a game leaves the catalogue the save file stays on the console. The game doesn't.

\n

Bloober Team's remake is long. Anyone still wandering around Brookhaven Hospital needs more than a couple of evenings, so the choice is either finishing it in a hurry or owning it.

\n

We read every shop we compare on 17 September at 05:45 UTC, and these prices move daily, so check the figure on the page before you pay. One number up front: a copy that belongs to you costs €18.29 on PC and €27.99 on PS5, both with no fees.

\n

What leaving the catalogue actually does

\n

The remake came out two years ago, also in an October, published by KONAMI. It reached PS Plus later, as part of the catalogue rotation, and that rotation runs in both directions. Come October the icon on your dashboard stops launching anything, and it takes seven other games with it.

\n

Buy it afterwards and you pick up your save exactly where you left it. The only open questions are which shop and which machine.

\n

PS5: nine offers, and one of them is really yours

\n

The PS5 page has 9 live offers, which is thin for a game this big. The make-up of those nine matters more than the number: five are shared accounts, three are discs at launch prices, and one is a digital licence.

Behind those six there are three physical copies and nothing else: Amazon DE at €45.91, no fees, Standard; Amazon FR at €49.99, no fees, Standard; and a second Amazon DE at €61.90, no fees, Standard. Discs at release price, two years on.

\n

So here is the trap waiting for everyone who loses the game in October and goes looking for something cheap on PS5. An Account is not a copy. You log into someone else's PlayStation account to play, the game never appears in your library, and the owner can take the access back whenever they like. The €12.58 at the top of the page buys you a borrowed game, which is roughly what PS Plus was already giving you. The cheapest offer that ends up on your own account is the PlayStation Store at €27.99, no fees, PSN Key.

\n

On PC the same game is €18.29 with no fees

\n

There are 81 live offers on the PC page and the cheapest one that puts the game in your own Steam library is CDKeys.com at €18.29, no fees, Standard edition. That is the cheapest copy in this whole article, €9.70 below the PlayStation Store. The rest of the front row:

Steam's own page asks €69.99. Between the two official stores, PlayStation's €27.99 is the reasonable one, which is not something we get to write often.

\n

PC has its shared accounts too, and they sit above everything else: Difmark at €10.07 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€10.52 with fees), Steam Account, and G2A at €13.68 with the coupon GCKG2AH9K2L (€13.97 with fees), Steam Account. Same catch, same reason to skip them if the point of buying is keeping the game.

\n

Read the second price, not the first

\n

Gameseal advertises the cheapest Standard edition of the lot at €17.18, a full €1.11 under CDKeys.com. Add its payment fee and it finishes at €19.31, which is €1.02 above CDKeys.com. CDKeys.com charges no fee, so the single figure it shows is the figure you pay. You only catch that by reading the second number on every row.

\n

A small oddity in the same shop: the Deluxe Ed. lands at €19.73 with fees against €19.31 for the Standard. Forty-two cents apart. If the extra content was ever tempting, it has never been this cheap to say yes.

\n

449 days of our own price records

\n

Everything in this section comes from our own history, and all of it is before payment fees and before coupons.

\n

On PC we have 3,296 measurements over 449 days. The median is €23.95, so this morning's front row is a good chunk under what the game normally costs. The floor we've ever logged is €8.00, last July. This month it has been down to €10.99, the same as August, while June never went below €14.90.

\n

PS5 is a different story: 652 measurements over 138 days, a median of €16.57, and a record low of €12.58 — which is precisely where the cheapest offer sits today. It hasn't gone under that since May. There is no hidden lower gear on PlayStation, and the median itself is shared-account territory.

\n

If €18.29 still isn't your number, set a price alert and let it watch the PC shops while you play something else.

\n

What we'd buy before the catalogue changes

\n

For the record on the game itself: Silent Hill 2 Remake, developed by Bloober Team, published by KONAMI, and rated Very Positive on Steam with 40,765 positive reviews against 2,602 negative.

\n

If there's a PC in the house, that's where to buy it. €18.29 with no fees, in your library forever, €51.70 under what Valve asks for the same thing — pick the shop you already trust and buy Silent Hill 2 Remake key there.

\n

If the PS5 is the only console you have, pay the €27.99 at the PlayStation Store and stop looking. Everything cheaper on the PS5 page is an account, and an account is exactly the thing that can be taken away from you again in a few months.
