Death Squared is one of the games leaving the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogue on 20 October. It goes out alongside Silent Hill 2, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Gloomhaven: Mercenaries Edition, Rogue Lords and Lake.
If you've been playing it through the subscription, you have three weeks left. After that you either buy it or stop playing. And if you're happy to move to PC, the Steam version costs less than a euro.
A puzzle game that needs a partner
SMG Studio's game is built around cooperation. Each player moves a little robot, and every level is a small arena full of traps where one wrong step kills everyone. You can play the story alone or with a friend, and there's a separate party mode for four.
On Steam it has 471 reviews and the verdict is "Very Positive": 90% recommend it (424 positive).
The PC version for under a euro
Steam charges €14.79 (no fees). The resellers are a different story: Eneba sells the Steam Key for €0.40 (€0.97 with fees), Kinguin for €0.59 (€0.98 with fees) and HRKGame for €0.62 (€1.02 with fees). Instant Gaming has it for €1.09 (no fees). The Eneba key is a global Steam Key, so region isn't a problem.
At these prices the payment fee can cost more than the game itself, as it does at Eneba. Compare the final figure, not the headline one.
How the price got here
This is recent. In May the cheapest key in our history was €5.12 (store price, no fees). It fell to €2.05 in June, dropped below a euro in late July and has sat at €0.39 or €0.40 since August. Steam hasn't touched its price in the months we've been tracking it: €14.79 every day.
What happens to your PlayStation saves
Buying it on Steam means starting again: progress doesn't carry over from PlayStation to PC. For a puzzle game that's less of a loss than it sounds, and it's a good excuse to replay the levels with someone new. If you'd rather stay on console, the only option after 20 October is to buy it on the PlayStation Store.
