Since 16 September, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion has been part of Xbox Game Pass Premium, playable through the cloud, on Xbox Series X|S, on handhelds and on PC. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers have had it since launch day, so what changed this week is that the Premium tier gets it too. Planet of Lana II, Routine and Ultimate Sheep Raccoon joined Premium on the same day.
If you already pay for one of those plans, go and download it. The rest of this is for people who play on Steam or PS5 and want two answers: what sort of game this is, and what it costs to own a copy this week.

Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling beat 'em up in the arcade mould, drawn in pixel art. Tribute Games developed it, the studio that made TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, and Dotemu publishes it with Marvel Games. It launched on 1 December on PC through Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Switch and Switch 2.
The plot is a pretext, as it should be in this genre. The Annihilation Wave is pouring in and a crowd of heroes heads out to punch it back where it came from.
Two heroes per stage, swapped mid-fight
The roster had 15 characters at launch: 11 open from the start and 4 more to unlock. Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Iron Man, Storm and Venom are among them. The twist is that you do not take a single fighter into a stage. You pick two and switch between them during combat, so the pairing you settle on before a level matters as much as your favourite.
Up to four people can play together in local co-op, on one screen. Cyclops and The Thing came later, on 18 May, as paid DLC, so they are not part of the original fifteen.
Critics liked it, a little more on some machines than others: Metacritic has it at 81 on PC, 80 on PS5, 84 on Xbox Series and 72 on Switch 2. By May it had passed 1.5 million players. On Steam the verdict is Very Positive, with 88% of 2,298 reviews in favour.
What a PC copy costs this morning
There are 12 live offers on the PC page. These are the five lowest, each with the shop's price and what actually leaves your card once the payment fee is added:

The top two are shared Steam accounts. You receive a login for an account somebody else created, and the game sits in that account instead of your own library. Some players are happy with the arrangement. We would rather own the thing, and here that costs €1.92 extra: the Global Steam Key at Kinguin, €16.24 with fees, activates on your own account and stays there.
Further up the price range, Instant Gaming sells a Steam Key at €20.59 (no fees) and Steam itself asks €29.99 (no fees). The Steam Gift offers start at Difmark Digital Keys, €22.29 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€23.29 with fees), and climb past €30 at Kinguin and G2A. None of them gets anywhere near the cheapest key.
Where €14.72 sits in our price history
Our history records raw shop prices, without fees and without coupons, so the fair comparison is with the €14.72 base price rather than the €16.24 you pay at checkout.
The median for a PC key in our records is €16.59, and today's cheapest key is €1.87 under it. The lowest we have logged was €10.51 on 1 September, which leaves today €4.21 above the floor. A decent price, then, but not a record one.
Steam's own price has moved around more than the resellers'. It was €23.79 from 8 May to 15 June, then €19.49 from 26 June to 8 September, and it is back at €29.99 now. If you were holding out for a Steam sale, the last one ended eleven days ago, and even with fees the reseller key comes in €13.75 under Steam's current price.
If you would rather wait for something closer to that €10.51, set a price alert on the PC page and forget about it until it goes off.
On PS5, one of the three offers is an account
The MARVEL Cosmic Invasion PS5 page has three live offers:
- Difmark: €19.31 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€20.18 with fees), Account (shared).
- PlayStation Store: €29.99 (no fees), PSN Key.
- Media Markt ES: €35.99 (no fees), physical copy.
Difmark is the cheapest by almost ten euros, with the same catch as on PC: it is a shared account, and the game is not tied to your own PSN profile. Of the other two, the PlayStation Store code is six euros cheaper, while the boxed copy is the one you can lend to a friend or sell on when you are done.
Subscription or a copy of your own
With Game Pass Premium, Ultimate or PC Game Pass, it is already in your catalogue and there is nothing to buy. On Steam, the Global key at Kinguin is the offer we would take; if that suits you, buy MARVEL Cosmic Invasion key there for €16.24 with fees, or check the full list of PC offers first. On PS5, the PlayStation Store's €29.99 is the cheapest way to have the game on your own profile.
