From Tuesday 6 October to Monday 2 November, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 is one of the three PlayStation Plus monthly games, in its PS5 and PS4 versions. If you play on PC there is no subscription that covers it, but you hardly need one: the cheapest Steam Key this morning is €7.11 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€7.43 with fees) at Difmark Digital Keys, while Steam still charges €49.99 (no fees).
How the PS Plus offer works
Sony announced the October line-up on the PlayStation Blog: F1 25 and Hunt: Showdown 1896, both PS5 only, plus World Brothers 2 on PS5 and PS4. Monthly games go to every PS Plus member, Essential included.
You have to add the game to your library inside that window. Do that and you can play it for as long as your subscription stays active; miss 2 November and the chance is gone. September's games can still be claimed until Monday 5 October.
What a Steam Key costs today
Our comparison shows 13 offers across 12 stores. The one from Difmark Digital Keys is a proper Steam Key, so you redeem it and the game sits in your own library. With fees included, it works out 85% cheaper than buying on Steam.
Is that a good price for this game? Our price history for keys covers 310 days and is recorded without payment fees or coupons, so the fair comparison is the store's price before the coupon, €8.46. On that basis the median is €10.43 and the lowest we have logged is €8.20, on 23 August. Today is 26 cents above that low, and below it with the code.
PC and PlayStation: the differences we could confirm
Only what the Steam store page states:
- Online co-op for up to four players.
- Cross-play: Steam players can play online with Epic Games Store players. The page says nothing about PlayStation, so don't buy the PC version expecting to join friends who claimed it through PS Plus.
- Linking an Epic Games account is optional. You need it to invite Epic players or add them as friends; online play works without it.
- Languages: English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
- Light requirements: a GeForce GTX 750 Ti, 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of disk space as the minimum. Windows only.
A voxel spin-off with over 100 characters
World Brothers 2 is the blocky side branch of the EDF series, developed by Yuke's and published by D3 Publisher. You build a squad of four soldiers from a roster of more than 100 characters and take on giant enemies across more than 100 missions, with five difficulty levels and over 600 weapons and accessories to collect.
On Steam it is rated "Very Positive", with 89% of reviews positive. That comes from just 197 reviews, a small sample. On Metacritic the PS5 version scores 81 from 12 critics and the PC version 77 from only 5.
Which version makes sense for you
If you already pay for PS Plus, claim it on console. If you don't subscribe, or your friends play on PC, €7.43 gets you a copy that stays yours. All the stores are on the page to buy Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 key, and you can set a price alert if you would rather wait for a new low. New to the series? The first World Brothers is €3.19 (no fees) as a Steam Key at YUPLAY.
Prices checked on the morning of 1 October.
