Want to see more from Gocdkeys on Google?
You need to be signed in to your Google account.
Bounty Train is free to keep on GOG until Monday 5 October at 1pm UTC, which is 2pm in London and 3pm in Paris or Berlin. Claim it before then and it stays in your GOG library for good, DRM-free. It is the Wild West railway game from Corbie Games, published by Daedalic, and it came out more than nine years ago. If you would rather have it on Steam, that costs less than a euro at the moment too.
How to add it to your GOG library
- Sign in to gog.com, or create an account. It is free, and it is all GOG asks for.
- Open the GOG homepage and scroll down to the giveaway section. The "Go to giveaway" button on the game's own page takes you to the same spot.
- Click to add it to your library. No payment, no card details.
- Download it from your library whenever you want, with the offline installer or through GOG Galaxy. The launcher is optional.
The deadline is for claiming, not for installing. Once it is in your account, you can download it next week or in two years.
What the free copy includes
Only the base game. The two DLCs on GOG, New West and the Trainium Edition Upgrade, are still sold separately. It runs on Windows and macOS, needs no activation and no internet connection to play, and comes with a couple of goodies: avatars and a wallpaper.
What kind of game Bounty Train is
You run a train across 19th-century North America. You build it up carriage by carriage, hire a crew, haul passengers and freight between real cities and buy cheap at one station to sell high at the next. Along the line come chases and ambushes by bandits, and problems can be solved with a gun, with diplomacy or with a bribe. HowLongToBeat, quoted on the GOG page, puts the main story at about 20 hours.
The Steam version for under a euro
A GOG copy will not show up in your Steam library. To get it there you need a Steam Key, and this weekend those are close to free as well. The cheapest once fees are added is at Difmark: €0.56 with coupon Gocdkeys (€0.59 with fees), Steam Key. Fanatical, an official store, has it at €0.79 (no fees), Steam Key, and Steam itself charges €0.99 (no fees), down from its usual €9.99.
Look twice at the lowest headline prices. K4G shows €0.30 with coupon GCDK14DEAL, but a €0.43 payment fee takes it to €0.73 with fees, Steam Key. Kinguin's €0.36 with coupon OCTGOC10 ends up at €0.74 with fees, Steam Key. On a game this cheap the fee can cost more than the game.
Is it worth paying for the Steam copy?
Only if you want everything in your Steam library. A key usually sells for €7.45 by our history and launched at €9.90, both without fees, so paying 59 cents is hardly a gamble. If you just want to play it, take the free one on GOG. Steam players rate it Mostly Positive, with 70% of 1,324 reviews in favour. All the stores are on the page to buy Bounty Train key.
Prices checked on the morning of 4 October.
