Klei Entertainment is giving away the first DLC for Rotwood. The Drakin Armoury Pack came out on 1 October, normally costs €4.99 (no fees) on Steam, and is yours to keep for free if you add it to your account before 15 October at 10:00 Pacific time, which is 19:00 in Central Europe. The base game is on sale at the same time: €21.74 (no fees) on Steam until 8 October, and none of the other stores we track beats that price this week.
What the Drakin Armoury Pack adds
The headline item is a new weapon type, the greatsword, with more than 20 variants to unlock and a set of new weapon powers. You also get a new playable species, the Drakin, with customisable body parts, a new quest that leads to two new minibosses, and new armour mirages to unlock.
If Rotwood has passed you by: it is an action roguelite in the beat 'em up mould from Klei, the studio behind Don't Starve and Oxygen Not Included, which also publishes it. You fight corrupted creatures alone or with up to three friends, online or in local split-screen. It spent almost two years in Early Access before version 1.0 arrived on 3 March.
How to claim it before 15 October
Go to the Rotwood: Drakin Armoury Pack page on Steam while it shows -100% and add it to your account. Once it is there, it stays there after the giveaway ends. Owners of the game have nothing else to do.
To play the content you need the base game on Steam. We have not been able to confirm whether Steam lets you claim the pack without owning Rotwood, so if you are planning to buy the game, the simplest route is to buy it first and claim the DLC straight after.
Where Rotwood is cheapest today
Unusually, the answer is Steam itself. Its 25% discount brings the game down from €28.99 (no fees) to €21.74 (no fees), Steam. Steam also sells the Rotwood: Berserk Edition, which bundles the game with this DLC, for the same €21.74 (no fees). While the pack is free, either option leaves you with the same thing.
We list 15 active PC offers, and every reseller is above Steam this morning. The closest is G2A from €22.19 before fees, then Kinguin at €22.98 and K4G at €23.04, also before fees. Several of those offers are not keys but Steam Gifts or altergifts, meaning a gift sent to your Steam account.
The sale ends a week before the free DLC
The dates do not line up. The discount on the game finishes on 8 October and the pack stays free until 15 October. If you do not own Rotwood and want both, buying this week gets you the game for €21.74 (no fees) and the DLC for nothing. Buy after the 8th and you will pay the normal €28.99 (no fees) unless another sale turns up, though the DLC can still be claimed until the 15th.
What Rotwood has cost since the summer
Our history figures are without fees and mix keys with other formats. In June and July the cheapest copies went for around €18.12 to €18.22. In August and September the lowest we saw was about €28.62 to €28.86. Today's €21.74 is the cheapest the game has been since July.
Is it worth buying now?
Steam user reviews are Very Positive overall, 90% of 2,222. The last 30 days are Mixed, 68% of 32, a small sample but worth knowing about. If you already wanted Rotwood, this week is a good moment: the price is the lowest since July and the first DLC comes free. If you would rather wait for the June and July level, set a price alert.
