Asobo Studio and Focus Entertainment launch on 27 August, and the prequel swaps medieval France for the Minotaur's island, with Sophia in the lead. That part is straightforward. The shop window is where it gets muddy: there is one digital edition of the game, a collector's box sold right next to it, and a subscription that gives it away on launch day. Only two of those three leave you owning anything afterwards.
One edition, a box of merchandise and a subscription
Forget the usual Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate ladder, because it does not exist here. The publisher has put out a single edition of the game, identical across the four official stores — Steam, Epic, the PS Store and the Microsoft Store — and alongside it two things that get advertised like editions when they are nothing of the sort. What pre-ordering actually adds
The pre-order bonus is the Heritage Pack, and it is identical on every platform. What is in it:
- The Minoan Sword, a cosmetic weapon.
- Alec's Pendant, an accessory.
- A digital artbook of more than thirty pages, with concept art, character designs and environment paintings from the studio.
None of it makes the campaign any longer, and none of it unlocks content that was being held back. It is a costume and a book. What does deserve a check is where your key comes from: the pack is attached to the pre-order, so a reseller only passes it on when the description says in writing that it is included. If nobody mentions the Heritage Pack, take it as not there.
The Collector Box does not contain the game
This is the detail most people miss, and the expensive one to get wrong. The box holds a numbered 23 cm Sophia and Theseus figurine, a premium SteelBook, three A5 art prints and a metal replica ring. The product page spells it out: the game is not included.
There is a calendar problem on top of that. European delivery is scheduled for well after launch, while the game is playable on 27 August. If you want both, sort the digital copy out first — you can buy Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy key from whichever shop is cheapest that day — and let the box turn up when it turns up.
Who gets it on Game Pass from day one?
It lands on launch day on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The subscription tiers below Ultimate do not get day-one releases, so it will not show up there on that date. On top of that the game is Xbox Play Anywhere: one purchase inside the Xbox ecosystem covers the console and the PC, which is why some offers here are tagged "Xbox Series X|S / PC".
The sums are quick. If you already pay for Ultimate, there is nothing to decide. If you do not, put a month of subscription next to the cheapest offer we can see, currently Difmark at € (with coupon Gocdkeys), and be clear about what you are comparing: cancel the subscription and the game goes with it, whereas a key stays in your account.
What actually separates one offer from another
With a single edition on sale, the only things that change from one offer to the next are the format and the region. The panel below gives you one entry per combination rather than ten near-identical versions of the same thing:
Four kinds of label turn up. A standard key with a region on it — Europe, Global or North America — which is the normal purchase. Is there a Deluxe or Ultimate edition?
None has been announced above the standard one. Neither the official stores nor the sellers we track list anything else, so what is left to decide is the platform and the format.
Does the Collector Box come with a code for the game?
No. It comes with the figurine, the SteelBook, the prints and the ring. The playable copy is bought separately.
Does the Xbox version also work on PC?
Yes, because the game is Play Anywhere inside the Xbox ecosystem. Careful, though: that does not cover a Steam code, which is a different store and a different library.
Does the picture change much on console?
It changes a lot. The platform-by-platform breakdown is in how it splits between PC, Xbox and PS5.
So which one do you buy?
With one edition there is no tier to agonise over, so the real question is how you want to get hold of it. Pre-order if you want the Heritage Pack and you plan to play at launch. Game Pass if you are already paying for Ultimate, or if one playthrough is enough for you. The Collector Box only if you want the objects, and with a playable copy bought separately. And if you would rather own it outright from day one, you can buy Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy key after checking the four labels on the panel.
