Welcome to Elderfield went on sale for PC on September 10. Two days later there are 20 live offers across 12 stores, which is a lot of noise for a game almost nobody has finished. The four cheapest of them are not copies of the game at all.

Chris Cote built it, Kwalee publishes it. The pitch is a cozy farming game with Lovecraftian horror underneath: you plant, you look after the village, and something below the village is not right. Prices here were read on September 12 at 05:42 UTC.

A farming village with something wrong underneath it

On the surface it is the familiar routine: crops, chores, neighbours. The horror is not a separate mode, it runs under that routine. Beyond that we are not going to describe content we have not seen. The game is two days old.

Who it is for: people who finish farming sims and come away feeling they were a bit too safe.

362 positive reviews out of 381 is a good start, not a verdict

Steam currently reads Very Positive, 362 in favour against 19 against. Fine ratio. Tiny sample. Those 381 people are mostly the ones who were already waiting for the release and bought on day one, and launch weeks flatter almost every small game. Check back in a month before you treat that badge as settled.

The four cheapest offers are shared accounts

Sorted by what you actually hand over, the bottom of the price list is all Steam Account:

  • Difmark: €8.39 base, €8.77 with payment fees, coupon Gocdkeys. Without the coupon the store asks €9.99.
  • Gameseal: €9.12 base, €10.21 with fees, coupon SEAL17CKD.
  • Kinguin: €9.49 base, €10.59 with fees, coupon SEPGOC10.
  • Driffle: €10.25 base, €11.02 with fees, coupon GOCDKEYS10.

An account offer means you log into somebody else's Steam account to play. The game never appears on your own profile, the achievements are not yours, and whoever sold you the access can take it back. The gap between the cheapest account and a real activation code is around €4. That is a thin reason to buy something you do not own.

€12.99 at Instant Gaming and CDKeys, with nothing added at checkout

The cheapest genuine Steam Key is €12.99, and two stores are level there: Instant Gaming and CDKeys.com. Neither adds a payment fee, so €12.99 is the figure that leaves your bank. Steam wants €16.19, also fee-free, which puts the saving at €3.20. Both stores sit at the top of our buy Welcome to Elderfield key page.

Above €13.59 the price list stops making sense

YUPLAY comes next at €13.59 as a Steam Key with no fees. Eneba advertises €12.49 but adds €1.62 at the till, so the Gocdkeys10 coupon still leaves you at €14.11, more than the two cheapest stores charge. Allyouplay is €15.49 flat, under Steam but not by much. There is even a Steam Account from G2A at €13.59 with fees, an account that costs more than a proper code.

The three Steam Gift offers land between €20.61 and €22.86 with fees, every one of them above the official price. At the very top, K4G lists a Steam Account at €99, or €85.14 with the GCDK14DEAL coupon and €92.78 once fees are in. Same game, same page, and the most expensive offer is more than ten times the cheapest.

23 days of history cannot tell you to wait

Our price series starts on August 20, back when the game was still a pre-order, so we hold 23 days of data and only two of them with the game on sale. In those 23 days it has been cheaper than today on exactly one. The lowest we have recorded is €10.54, from yesterday, and that was an account rather than a code. History figures are stored without payment fees and mix formats, so do not hold them up against the €12.99 above.

There is no reliable median yet, and three weeks do not make a usual price. If you can wait, put a price alert on it and let the first real discount come to you. If you want it this weekend, €12.99 with no fee is a fair entry: buy Welcome to Elderfield key and leave the accounts alone.
