Microsoft has cut most of the Tomb Raider series on the Xbox Store, and the deepest discounts reach 90 %. In eurozone stores Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, the reboot that started Lara's survivor trilogy, costs €1.99 (no fees) instead of €19.99, and the six remastered classics are €10.99 (no fees) instead of €54.99. The promotion ends at 23:59 UTC on Wednesday 21 October, which is 00:59 on Thursday in the UK and 01:59 in most of mainland Europe. We checked every price against the codes sold by the stores we compare, because for some games a key is still cheaper and for others it isn't.
What Microsoft has discounted, and until when
These are the euro prices on the Xbox Store this morning, taken from Microsoft's own catalogue for Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Portugal (they are identical in all five):
- Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition: €1.99, down from €19.99 (-90 %)
- Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration: €2.99, down from €29.99 (-90 %)
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition: €3.99, down from €39.99 (-90 %)
- Tomb Raider I-III Remastered: €5.99, down from €29.99 (-80 %)
- Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered: €5.99, down from €29.99 (-80 %)
- Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered, both packs together: €10.99, down from €54.99 (-80 %)
The older Xbox 360 era games are on sale too: Tomb Raider Legend at €3.99, and Anniversary and Underworld at €1.99 each. The Xbox Store doesn't charge payment fees, so all of these are the final price. In the UK the same games are discounted in pounds, from £1.57 for Definitive Edition.
One thing is missing from the sale: Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy, the bundle with the three modern games, is still at its full €49.99.
Survivor trilogy: skip the bundle this week
That's the first decision made for you. If you buy the first reboot, Rise and Shadow separately on the Xbox Store, you pay €8.97 (no fees) for the three, and each one is the complete edition with its DLC. The Shadow Definitive Edition, for example, comes with the seven challenge tombs and all the extra weapons, outfits and skills.
Nor do keys beat that this week. The cheapest trilogy code we list is at Instant Gaming, €9.69 (no fees), Global region. You'll also see Key4Games at €4.33 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€4.78 with fees), but that's an account, not a code: you get the login for someone else's Xbox account that owns the games, they never appear on yours, and if the seller takes the account back you lose them. It isn't the same purchase as a code, so don't compare the two as if it were.
Definitive Edition and Rise: buy them from Microsoft
For these two the Store wins, though only by a few cents. The cheapest key for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is Eneba's US code at €1.82 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€2.52 with fees); the European one is €1.91 with the same coupon (€2.61 with fees). Microsoft charges €1.99 with no fees on top. That Eneba price, without fees, is already the lowest we've recorded for this game, so resellers won't go much lower than they are now.
Same story with Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration. Gamivo has a US code at €2.18 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€3.01 with fees) and HRKGame a European one at €2.64 with coupon Gocdkeys12 (€3.04 with fees), against €2.99 at the Store. This is the edition with the Blood Ties chapter, the season pass content and the co-op Endurance mode, so there's no reason to look at the plain version.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider: a key is about 40 cents cheaper
Here the codes are slightly ahead. Gamivo sells the Definitive Edition as a US code for €2.73 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€3.58 with fees), and G2A has a European code for €3.46 with coupon GCKG2AC9Q3M (€3.75 with fees). The Store asks €3.99. On our Shadow of the Tomb Raider page the standard and Definitive editions share one list, so check the edition before you click: the cheap ones this morning are all Definitive.
The original six games: the bundle, with a code from Europe
If you grew up with the polygon Lara, Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered is the one to get. It covers the first three games with their expansions and The Last Revelation, Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness, and you can switch between the new and the original graphics with one button. At the Store, buying I-III and IV-VI separately costs €11.98, so the bundle at €10.99 is the better deal.
Keys are cheaper here. On our page for Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered, Gamivo has a US code at €7.63 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€8.88 with fees) and a European one at €8.33 (€9.61 with fees). Difmark lists it for €7.13 (€7.45 with fees), but that one is an account. If you only want one half, I-III Remastered and IV-VI Remastered each have Gamivo codes at €4.13 (€5.02 with fees) from the US and €4.20 (€5.10 with fees) from Europe.
A small catalogue note: we have this bundle on two pages, one called 1-6 and one called I-VI. We use the one with more offers; the other one carries the Microsoft Store price.
US or European code, and what if you miss the sale
Most of the cheapest codes above are from the US. The stores selling them say they must be redeemed with your Xbox account or console set to that region, which is a hassle for a saving of a few cents. If you're in Europe, the European code or the Store itself is the simpler choice. We haven't found Argentina or Turkey codes for these games in stock today.
To sum up: the three modern games from the Store for €8.97 in total, and the six classics with a European code for €9.61 with fees. If Thursday comes and you haven't decided, the keys will probably stay near today's prices for a while; set a price alert for Tomb Raider I-VI Remastered and we'll email you when it drops to the price you choose. If you'd rather start with the first game of the trilogy, all its offers with fees included are on the page to buy Tomb Raider Definitive Edition key.
