Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 came out yesterday, 14 October, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It's developed by Auroch Digital and published by Big Fan Games. A Switch 2 version has been announced for later, with no date yet. The official price is $24.99, Steam charges €24.99, and the 10% pre-order discount on Steam ended on launch day.
Where you play changes a lot, both in what you pay and in what you actually get for it. PC is the only platform with a key well below the official price. On consoles the cheap option, when there is one, is an account.
What's new compared with the first Boltgun
The first game came out three years ago: a Space Marine shooter dressed up like something from the mid-90s, all chunky sprites and pixels. The sequel keeps that look. This time there are two playable characters, with Malum Caedo back and a Sister of Battle joining him, and the main villain is Vashtorr. There are new weapons (the launch trailer shows off a Melta) and a new soundtrack from Mick Gordon. You can try it first: there's a demo on Steam.
Critics like it. The PC version sits at 81 on Metacritic, and the top critics average on OpenCritic is 83. Steam user reviews started out "Very Positive", but on launch day there were only around 65 of them, so give it a few days before reading much into that.
Never played the first one? It's cheap at the moment: Gamivo has the first Boltgun as a Steam Key for €3.09 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€3.95 with fees), against €6.59 on Steam (no fees).
How much does Boltgun 2 cost on each platform?
| Platform | Cheapest option this morning | Official store |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Steam Key, Instant Gaming: €17.49 (no fees) | Steam: €24.99 (no fees) |
| PS5 | Account, Key4Games: €14.44 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€15.34 with fees) | PlayStation Store, PSN Key: €24.99 (no fees) |
| Xbox Series X|S | No key in stock. Account, Key4Games: €28.89 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€30.45 with fees) | Microsoft Store: not in our comparator (official price $24.99) |

PC: 30% below the Steam price
Instant Gaming sells the Steam Key for €17.49 (no fees), €7.50 less than Steam. You redeem it on your own Steam account and the game sits in your library like anything else you've bought.
Difmark also shows up, but it sells a Steam Account: a separate account that already has the game. It isn't added to yours, so you'd have to log into that one to play, and it costs more than the key anyway.
We have 152 days of price data for this key, all from before launch. The median was €23.79, and the lowest we saw was €13.65 on 20 March, early in the pre-order period (both without fees). Today's price is a good deal compared with what it usually cost. If you're hoping for that March price again, set a price alert for Boltgun 2 and we'll email you when it gets there.
PS5 and Xbox: full price or an account
On PS5 the only key is the one from the PlayStation Store, a PSN Key for €24.99 (no fees). Key4Games sells an account for €14.44 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€15.34 with fees), almost €10 less, but it's the same deal as on PC: a separate PSN account with the game on it, not the game on your own profile. If you want it on your account, the Store is the way to go. Every PS5 offer is on the Boltgun 2 PS5 page.
Xbox is the odd one out. There isn't a single key in stock, and the only offer is a Key4Games account at €28.89 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€30.45 with fees), which is more than the official $24.99. We don't track the Microsoft Store price in our comparator, so check it there. We wouldn't take that account. Keep an eye on the Boltgun 2 Xbox page for when keys turn up.
Which version should you buy?
If you play on PC, the Instant Gaming key is the clear pick. On PS5, it comes down to whether saving almost €10 is worth playing on a second account. On Xbox, there's nothing to gain outside the official store for now. And if you were waiting for Switch 2, there's still no release date.
All the PC stores and formats, fees included, are on the page to buy Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 key.
