SEGA is cutting the price of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds for good, a few weeks before the game's second year of content starts on 3 November. The standard edition goes from around $70 to under $40, and the Digital Deluxe from around $90 to under $60, on every digital store. Steam has already made the change: the game costs €39.99 (no fees) there this morning.
Key shops still beat that price. The gap is just much smaller than it was before the cut.
How much it costs outside Steam this morning
The cheapest European Steam Keys come in at around €23.50 once fees are added. HRKGame has one for €21.62 with coupon Gocdkeys12 (€23.49 with fees), Gameseal for €20.97 with SEAL17CKD (€23.58 with fees) and Cdkeys Com for €23.59 (no fees). That's about €16.50 less than Steam.
You'll spot lower prices near the top, such as Difmark at €12.42 with coupon Gocdkeys (€12.98 with fees), but those are Steam Accounts: you get the login to a Steam account someone else set up with the game on it, not a code you redeem on your own. If you want the game in your own library, buy a key.
What every player gets for free in Year Two
Most of the new content won't cost you anything. Bayonetta joins the roster on 3 November with her Butterfly Witch machine, Sonic gets a papaya-orange McLaren F1 car in November, and Aigis from Persona arrives early next year. Each free racer comes with a ten-day Festival event that hands out cosmetic rewards.
The update also adds Duel, a one-on-one mode with ranked best-of-ten matches, plus a seventh gadget slot and 15 new gadgets on day one.
Season Pass Two: six packs, $30
The paid side of Year Two is Season Pass Two, sold on its own for $30. The packs arrive in stages:
| Pack | When | What's in it |
|---|---|---|
| Godzilla Pack | 3 November | Godzilla Escape track, Godzilla, King Ghidorah and Mothra vehicles |
| Evangelion Pack | January | Tokyo-3, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Shikinami Langley and three EVA machines |
| Sanrio Puroland | Early next year | Hello Kitty and Kuromi |
| SEGALAND Pack | Late next year | After Burner and OutRun arcade machines |
| Final Fantasy VII Remake Midgar Pack | Late next year | Midgar-themed content |
| Reload Revival Royal Pack | Late next year | Persona-themed content |
SEGA is also launching a Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition at $60, which is simply the game plus Season Pass Two.
Standard edition now, or the new Deluxe?
If you only care about the base game and the free updates, a standard key covers everything. Bayonetta, the McLaren, Aigis, Duel mode and the gadgets come with every copy.
If Godzilla and Evangelion are what tempt you, the maths is tighter. The Year Two Deluxe is $60 officially. A European key at around €23.50 plus the $30 pass lands in the same area, with one advantage: you can play now and decide on the pass once the first packs are out.
Don't mix the Deluxe editions up, though. The Deluxe keys resellers sell today are the launch Digital Deluxe, not the Year Two one. Cdkeys Com has it at €30.69 (no fees), cheaper than the standard edition on Steam, and Humble at €59.99 (no fees). Instant Gaming's €31.99 (no fees) is a US-region key, so check it activates where you live. Read each store's description to see what's included before you pay.
Super Shadow needs both passes
There's a reward for owning Season Pass One and Season Pass Two together: Super Shadow and the Super Dark Flare vehicle. The first pass is already cheaper than at launch on some stores: GamesPlanet sells it for €23.27 (no fees) and Fanatical for €26.09 (no fees). Every offer is on our Season Pass page.
The game itself came out on 25 September last year and has held up well since: 93% of its 11,655 Steam reviews are positive ("Very Positive"), and it has a Metascore of 85.
