Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has a new free DLC, Fists of Fury, out since 1 October together with patch 1.30. It makes bare-handed fighting a build the game actually supports, with its own weapons, gear and skill tree. Here is what it adds and what the base game costs now that Steam has it at half price.
Seven fist weapons that still count as unarmed
The trick is a new weapon category, Fistfighting Weapons. Every hit with one still counts as an Unarmed attack, so the unarmed bonuses already in the game keep working. There are seven:
- Brawler's Gloves: the starter pair.
- Unburdened Hands: a kill or a successful parry refills your Stamina.
- Unbroken Motion: each consecutive hit adds 2% Critical Hit chance, up to 50%.
- Patient Grasp: 20% of the physical damage you deal comes back as Stamina.
- Bitter Lesson, Still Touch and Charred Discipline: they apply Poison, Chill and Burn, and get stronger for every affected enemy within 15 metres.
Around them comes the Hermit's Garb in seven variants, arm and leg bindings, a headband meant for playing under 10% health, three amulets and three rings.
Where the quest starts and what happens to your skill points
Look for a hermit in the Horns of the South. Impress him and he takes you on as a disciple, and his questline pits you against some of Avalon's toughest enemies with nothing but your fists.
The new skill tree sits under Strength. It doubles Status Buildup on unarmed hits, gives them a chance to stun or break armour, improves the dash and widens the parry window. One side effect for existing saves: all points spent in the Unarmed category have been reset and refunded.
How to get Fists of Fury
It costs nothing, but it is a DLC, so you need the base game. Steam shows it as a separate free entry on the game's page. On Xbox the studio says both the DLC and the patch are already live, now with Xbox Play Anywhere, so saves and achievements carry over between console and PC.
As for patch 1.30, Questline quotes 5 to 30 extra FPS on PC and about 2 on consoles, and Steam Deck gets two presets: Quality at around 30 FPS and Performance at around 40.
What the base game costs today
On Steam it is €21.99 (no fees), Steam Key, 50% off the usual €43.99 until 8 October. A key from another store is cheaper: Gameseal has it at €10.74 with coupon SEAL17CKD (€12.07 with fees), Steam Key, and Driffle at €11.40 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€12.21 with fees), Steam Key.
Several offers are cheaper than those keys, and none of them puts the game in your own library. Most are Steam Accounts, starting with Difmark at €4.19 with coupon Gocdkeys (€4.38 with fees): you play on a profile that is not yours and lose the game if the password changes. The other one is GOG's €7.00 (no fees), which points to the Supporters Pack, an add-on. The game itself is €30.79 on GOG.
Is this a good price?
Before coupons and fees, Gameseal asks €12.94 and Driffle €12.67. A week ago both were around €24, and the lowest we had logged at either since late April was €13.49, in mid-June. Steam's €21.99 equals its July sale price, the lowest we have seen there.
Steam reviews are Very Positive, 87% of nearly 19,900. All stores are on the page to buy Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon key.
Prices checked on the morning of 2 October.
