Coffee Stain Studios has announced Core Values, the first paid expansion for Satisfactory, and it sends your factory underground. It was shown on 29 September during The Big Break Showcase. There is no release date and no price yet. What we do know is how you get into it, and that you'll need the base game, which is discounted on Steam right now and cheaper still as a key.

What Core Values adds below the surface

The expansion opens up a cave system with its own biomes, resources, plants and creatures. Some of that wildlife is hostile. There's also a cat-like animal the studio describes as friendly. For the factory itself you get new buildings, new research and new production chains, plus specialised equipment to extract what you find down there. Coffee Stain also mentions building mechanics made for underground terrain, and says you can move between the surface and the caves without a break.

It has its own story, separate from the main one.

When the expansion unlocks in your save

You don't need a finished factory. According to the studio, Core Values becomes available once you've built the Space Elevator and reached Tier 3 of the HUB milestones. That's early: at that point you're still getting coal power up and running. From there you go at your own pace and can switch between the main story and the expansion's story whenever you like.

So the save you already have will do. The base game is required, and Coffee Stain says it will keep getting regular updates while the expansion is in the works.

Platforms are confirmed, the date and price aren't

Core Values will come out on the same day on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The studio hasn't given a date, a release window or a price, and the expansion's Steam page doesn't show one either.

We're tracking 49 offers for the PC version. The cheapest Steam Key is at Gameboost: €22.39 with the coupon GCDK13 (€23.40 with fees). Steam has the game 30% off, at €27.29 (no fees) instead of €38.99, so the key saves you €3.89, or 14% with fees included.

The lowest price of all is a Steam Account at Difmark: €5.37 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€5.61 with fees). That gets you a login for someone else's account, not a copy in your own library. With a paid expansion on the way, you'll want the game on your own account.

On console, the PS5 version is €39.99 (no fees) as a PSN Key from PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Key is €27.59 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€29.55 with fees) at Gamivo.

Is this a good moment to buy the base game?

It's a fair price, though not a rare one. Over the last six months, the monthly average across all offers in our price history has stayed between €24.88 and €26.19. Those figures leave out fees and coupons and mix keys with accounts, so don't set them side by side with the €23.40 above. The lowest figure on record, €2.31, lasted a single day between two days at €17.29, which looks like a store's mistake.

Steam users rate the game Overwhelmingly Positive: 97% of more than 137,000 reviews. If you were going to play it anyway, today's key is fine, and every store is on the page to buy Satisfactory key. If Core Values is the only reason, there's no hurry. Set a price alert and wait.

Prices checked on the morning of 1 October.
