SEGA took Stranger Than Heaven to Gamescom and let twelve minutes of it run without a single cut: street brawls, the period setting, a camera that never looked away to cover a seam. AllKeyShop wrote it up on 29 August. It is the most anyone outside RGG Studio has seen of this game.
Release day is 15 January. The preorder is already taking money, so the price is the one thing here we can actually measure.
What Gamescom actually showed
Twelve uncut minutes is generous for a trade show, where a four-minute sizzle reel usually does the job. It is still a demo played in front of an audience. Nobody has finished the game. We have not played it, no reviewer has, no streamer has.
Worth knowing who is behind it: RGG Studio, the team of the Yakuza and Like a Dragon games and of Judgment, with SEGA publishing. Their back catalogue tells you what kind of studio this is. It tells you nothing about how this particular game turned out.
Four shops, and 20,00 € between the cheapest and Steam

Driffle at 49,99 € against Steam at 69,99 € is a gap of 20,00 € exactly, 28,6 % off what SEGA is asking through Valve. Kinguin sits 51 cents above Driffle, close enough that stock will probably decide it for you. CDKeys is the odd one out, nine euros above the cheapest and still ten under the official shop.

Steam's review box is empty
Go to the Steam page and where a score would be, it says "No user reviews". Not a mixed rating, not a thin sample. Zero reviews, zero positive, zero negative. There is no Metacritic number either, because there is nothing yet to average.
Paying now means paying for something no human being has been able to judge. Every preorder works like that, and this one is no exception, no matter how good the twelve minutes looked.
Almost two months of readings, one single change
We have taken 120 readings of this game since 6 July. Steam has asked 69,99 € in every one of them, never a cent less. Driffle has held 49,99 € from the first day we saw it. Kinguin has not moved off 50,50 €.
One price did change, and it went the wrong way for buyers. CDKeys opened at 57,99 € and now asks 58,99 €, a euro more than in July.
We have never recorded this game under 49,99 €.
Preorder now, or wait until the 15th?
We are not going to promise you a drop. Preorder prices on big SEGA releases can stay flat until launch and then move fast in either direction, and ours is a two-month sample on an unreleased game, which is a short one.
What the readings do support is narrower. Waiting has cost nobody anything so far. It has also saved nobody anything. If you were going to buy this at full price on 15 January regardless, 49,99 € is twenty euros better than doing it through Steam. If you are still unsure whether you want the game, there is nothing on our page, on Steam or anywhere else that can settle that for you yet.
