Squad 44 is free to play on Steam until 13 October, and it is also 70% off until 15 October, which brings it down to €5.85 (no fees). The sale outlasts the trial by two days, so you can play first and decide afterwards. If you decide to keep it, Steam is not where it costs least. This morning K4G was selling a Steam Key for €2.76 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€3.39 with fees), roughly €2.50 under the Steam sale.
What kind of game Squad 44 is
It is a Second World War tactical shooter from Offworld, the studio behind Squad, and the family resemblance is obvious. You play as part of a squad, you coordinate with your team over voice chat, and matches are big enough that going off on your own rarely gets you anywhere. If you mostly play fast arcade shooters, the free days are the cheapest way to find out whether a slower, team-first pace is for you.
Steam players are fairly happy with it: 14,793 of 18,966 reviews recommend it (78%), which gives it a "Mostly Positive" rating.
Where Squad 44 is cheapest this morning
The five cheapest offers are all Steam Keys, and the coupons do most of the work. Here is what each one costs once the payment fee is added, with Steam's own price at the bottom for comparison:
| Store | Format | With coupon | With fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| K4G | Steam Key (Europe) | €2.76 (GCDK14DEAL) | €3.39 |
| Gamivo | Steam Key (Global) | €2.77 (GCDKGamivo) | €3.62 |
| Gameseal | Steam Key (Global) | €3.00 (SEAL17CKD) | €3.63 |
| HRKGame | Steam Key (Global) | €3.26 (Gocdkeys12) | €3.66 |
| Kinguin | Steam Key (Global) | €3.14 (OCTGOC10) | €3.74 |
| Steam | Direct purchase | €5.85 (no coupon) | €5.85 (no fees) |
The K4G key is a European-region key, so it suits a Steam account registered in Europe. Gamivo, Gameseal and HRKGame sell global keys and sit within a few cents of each other. Would you rather skip coupons and fees altogether? Cdkeys Com has a Steam Key at €4.09 (no fees), which is still €1.76 below Steam.
Steam sale or reseller?
€5.85 (no fees) is a fair price, and buying on Steam has its comforts: no code to redeem, no region to double-check. Still, the cheapest key costs €2.46 less even after fees. That is over 40% off what Steam is asking.
There is also a Supporter Edition. The cheapest one this morning is at Instant Gaming, a Steam Key for €9.19 (no fees), while Fanatical asks €34.99 (no fees) for the same edition.
How today's price compares with our history
We have tracked Squad 44 for 166 days. The lowest daily price we logged was €2.79, in July, and the median is €3.33. Both figures leave out fees and coupons, so the fair comparison is with today's cheapest list price, €3.21 (no fees, no coupon), which sits close to the median. In other words, the game has been this cheap before and a little cheaper too. Buying now is perfectly sensible; you are just not catching a once-in-a-while low.
