Ubisoft is bringing back Rayman Origins, but you won't be able to buy the new version on its own. Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition comes free with every edition of Rayman Legends Retold, which launches on 3 December on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Ubisoft says it won't be sold separately and hasn't explained why.
That leaves anyone who fancies another run through Origins with a simple choice: wait for Retold and get both games, or pick up the original on PC for about €3 today.
What the Enhanced Edition adds
This is an upgraded version of the old game rather than a remake built from scratch. The hand-drawn 2D art stays, now with remastered assets, and it runs at native 4K and 60 fps.
On top of that you get:
- the 60 relics from the PS Vita version;
- 18 new skins, for 34 playable character variants in total;
- 50 new standees;
- accessibility options: skippable cutscenes, remappable controls and invulnerability modes.
To get it, you have to buy Retold
Retold was due on 1 October before slipping to 3 December, and we went through the delay in our Rayman Legends Retold pre-order article. The official stores haven't moved since. This morning the PlayStation Store wanted €39.99 (no fees) for the PS5 version, PSN Key, and Microsoft Store ES asked the same €39.99 (no fees) for the Xbox version, Xbox Key.
Difmark is cheaper on both consoles at €25.19 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€26.32 with fees), but that offer is an Account: login details for a shared account, not the game on your own profile. We'd go for the key. It's your call.
We don't have PC or Switch 2 pages for Retold yet, so we can't quote those versions.
The original Rayman Origins is €3.01 on PC
If you play on PC and just want Origins, the original is still on sale. The best offer in our comparison is at GOG: €3.01 (no fees), GOG Key.
That's about what it normally costs. Our history figures leave fees out: the median is €3.31, and the lowest we've recorded, €2.00, was years ago. Critics gave it 86 on Metacritic.
Which one makes sense for you
PC player who only cares about Origins? Buy the original. For €3.01 you get the whole game today. What you miss are the Vita relics, the new skins and standees, the 4K and 60 fps upgrade and the accessibility settings.
If you were going to get Legends Retold anyway, don't bother buying the old Origins first, because the enhanced one comes in the same package. On PS5, Xbox Series X|S or Switch 2, Retold is the only way to get this version of Origins.
