Ubisoft has pushed Rayman Legends Retold back by two months. On 15 September the publisher moved it from 1 October to 3 December on all four platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, where it will be sold on Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store.
If you already have a pre-order in, or were about to place one, the question now looks different. With roughly ten weeks to go, does paying today get you a better price? We read our PS5 and Xbox prices on the morning of 21 September, and the answer depends on which console sits under your TV.
The game had already gone gold
What makes this delay unusual is that Rayman Legends Retold had already gone gold, the stage where a build is finished and ready for copies to be manufactured. Ubisoft's explanation is that it wants more time to polish it, so that every detail gets the care it deserves on every platform. Development is shared between Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan.
Retold is a new version of Rayman Legends, Ubisoft's 2D platformer. How much it changes from the original is something we would rather not guess at. Ubisoft has promised a "Game Overview" trailer for tomorrow, 22 September, along with the first impressions from press and creators who have already played it. That will be the first proper look at what the money buys.
Xbox: Amazon ES has the cheapest copy you get to keep

That boxed copy on Amazon Spain is the cheapest copy of your own anywhere in this piece, on either console. It costs €10.09 less than the digital version from the Microsoft Store, and only €3.58 more than the Difmark account once fees are added.
A boxed copy also has something no download offers: once you have finished it, you can lend it to a friend or sell it on. Keep in mind that Amazon ES is Amazon's Spanish store, so if you live elsewhere, check its delivery terms before you order.
PS5: €39.99 either way

On PlayStation there is no cheaper route to a copy of your own. Fnac's boxed version and the PSN code cost exactly the same, €13.67 above the Difmark account with fees. The PlayStation Store has not moved from €39.99 in our records, which only start in late July, so there is no price history worth reading into yet. When you have made up your mind, you can buy Rayman Legends Retold key from the PS5 page that holds all three offers.
We do not have PC or Switch 2 pages for the game yet, so we cannot quote prices for those versions.
What pre-ordering an Account actually gets you
Difmark asks the same €26.32 with fees on both consoles, and what it sells is an Account. You receive the login details for a shared PlayStation or Xbox account where the game will sit. Pre-order it today and you are paying now for access to someone else's account in about two and a half months, once the game unlocks on 3 December.
Some players are fine with that trade, and it is the lowest price on both pages. We recommend a copy on your own account, though the choice stays with you. On Xbox in particular, the extra cost of owning the game outright is small: €3.58.
Our advice: see tomorrow's impressions first
Pre-ordering now saves nothing at the official stores, where Sony and Microsoft both ask €39.99. Only one copy of your own comes in under that, the Xbox physical edition at Amazon ES for €29.90 (no fees).
Nothing in our data says the €39.99 will come down before release, but paying that much in September does not buy you anything you could not get on launch day either.
With launch now in December, there is no hurry. Wait for the impressions on 22 September, and in the meantime set a price alert on the PS5 page or the Xbox page so you hear about any drop before release.
