Is it worth signing up to Game Pass for Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, or should you just buy it? If you already subscribe, the question answers itself: the remaster of the original joined the catalogue on 29 October, on console, PC and cloud, so you can play it at no extra cost.
Everyone else has a real choice to make, and the platform matters more than you'd expect. An Xbox key is €10.19 (no fees) at Cdkeys Com, while the cheapest EA App key for PC, once fees are in, is €14.03 with the coupon GCDK14DEAL (€15.62 with fees) at K4G.
Which Game Pass plans include it
The game comes through EA Play, which is included in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Premium is less clear. The published lists disagree on whether that plan gets it, so if that's the one you pay for, look the game up in the Xbox app before you count on it.
Replanted came out on 23 October last year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2. Until now the only subscription that had it was EA Play Pro. We don't know of any date for it leaving the catalogue, but keep in mind that access ends when your subscription does.
What you'd pay on PC, Xbox and PS5
Here are the options we'd look at this morning, by platform and format:
| Platform | Format | Store | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC | EA App key | K4G | €14.03 with GCDK14DEAL (€15.62 with fees) |
| PC | Steam version | Steam | €19.99 (no fees) |
| Xbox | Xbox key, Europe | Cdkeys Com | €10.19 (no fees) |
| PS5 | Digital version | PlayStation Store | €19.99 (no fees), read on 22 October |
| PS5 | Shared account, not recommended | Key4Games | €7.94 with GOCDKEYS15 (€8.55 with fees) |
PC: EA App now, or Steam during a sale
The keys for PC activate in the EA App, not on Steam, so check you're happy with that before paying. After K4G comes Eneba at €14.48 with Gocdkeys10 (€16.27 with fees), and Cdkeys Com at €16.79 (no fees).
The PC page has every offer if you want to buy Plants vs Zombies Replanted key and compare regions. Our price history for the key, without fees, shows a median of €14.49. The all-time low was €7.00 on 26 October, for a single day at Eneba, and it has been cheaper than today on 162 of the 435 days we've tracked. So today's price is about normal.
Steam is the odd one out. At its usual €19.99 (no fees) it's expensive, but it has dropped to €12.99 several times and went to €11.99 from 2 to 9 October, both without fees. At those prices it beats the keys, and the game sits in your Steam library. If that's where you want it, set a price alert and we'll email you when it falls.
You'll also spot a Steam account at Key4Games for €9.38 with GOCDKEYS15 (€10.06 with fees). That's a shared account: you get the login for someone else's Steam account with the game on it. It never reaches your own library and you lose it if the seller takes the account back, so we wouldn't buy it.
Cheaper on Xbox, fewer options on PS5
On the Xbox page, Cdkeys Com's European key is the one we'd choose. Eneba's European key is €9.84 with Gocdkeys10 (€11.23 with fees). Eneba also has a United States key at €9.36 with Gocdkeys10 (€10.71 with fees), but that's a different region, so read the listing and make sure it suits your account. The Microsoft Store was at €11.99 (no fees) when we last read it on 24 October.
In our Xbox key history, without fees, the median is €11.99 and the low is €9.93 on 22 October. It has been cheaper than today on just 7 of 274 days. There's also an account at Key4Games for €5.70 with GOCDKEYS15 (€6.21 with fees), with the same drawbacks as on Steam.
The PS5 page has no keys at all, and Game Pass is no help on PlayStation. That leaves the PlayStation Store or the shared accounts in the table, and we'd take the store.
So, subscribe or buy?
- You already pay for Ultimate or PC Game Pass: install it and play. It costs you nothing more.
- You only want a few afternoons with it: we wouldn't take out a plan just for this. Steam users are lukewarm too, with 66% positive out of 7,210 reviews.
- You want to keep it: on Xbox, the key at €10.19 (no fees). On PC, the K4G key at €14.03 with GCDK14DEAL (€15.62 with fees), or wait for Steam to drop to around €12 (no fees).
