Permafrost has been playable since 9 October in Early Access on PC, and you can get it on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. SpaceRocket Games developed it and Toplitz Productions publishes it. It was meant to come out in August, but the studio pushed it back two months to polish it further. Steam charges €19.99 (no fees). The cheapest Steam Key we found this morning costs €17.17 with fees, so buying from a reseller saves you a little under €3.
Survival on a frozen Earth after the Moon broke apart
The game is set in the near future. A cataclysm has split the Moon, and Earth is now an icy wasteland. Your main enemy is the cold: let your body temperature drop too far and you die of hypothermia. Nearly everything you do feeds into that. You build a shelter and keep it heated, craft structures and gear from blueprints, and grow your own food.
A dog you rescue keeps you company and uses its nose to warn you. You can play alone or in co-op with up to four players.
At least a year of Early Access, and a price rise on the way
The studio expects Early Access to last at least 12 months and has said the price will very likely go up before version 1.0. Ahead of launch, there was a playtest from 2 to 6 October.
If cold-weather survival is your kind of game, then, this is the cheapest moment to jump in. The catch is the usual one with Early Access: you pay for an unfinished game and play it for a year or more while it changes under your feet.
What the first Steam reviews say
Two days after launch, Permafrost sits at "Mostly Positive" on Steam, with 405 of 555 reviews recommending it (73%). That is a small sample, and the score can still move a fair bit as more people pick it up and the first updates arrive.
Will your PC run it?
The minimum spec is 64-bit Windows 10, 16 GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 590, and 30 GB of free space. The recommended setup asks for an RTX 3070 Ti or RX 6750 XT.
Where Permafrost is cheapest this morning
Every reseller offer we track is a Steam Key. You redeem it on your Steam account and the game sits in your library exactly as if you had bought it there. If you want the GOG or Epic version, you will have to buy it from that store, because we have no offers for those platforms.

Only 19 days of price history
We started tracking Permafrost 19 days ago, so there is not much to go on yet. The lowest daily price we have is €16.00, logged on 9 October, launch day, and the median is €19.79. Both figures exclude fees. With a price increase already announced, holding out for a deep discount on a game this new is a gamble.
