Emberville was due in Steam early access on 27 October. One day before that, on 26 October, Cygnus Cross announced on Steam that it was moving the launch to 7 January. If you were planning to pay on day one, there's nothing sensible to buy yet: Steam shows no price, and we have no key in our comparison. You can see more information on Emberville prices as offers appear.
Why Cygnus Cross pushed it back
The studio wants to act on what players said about the demo at Steam Next Fest. The only specific change it has named is a rebuild of the bow combat, which needed more time than it had left. It also says the early access version wasn't up to its standard.
According to the press, the launch will now include what was meant to be the first update after release. The demo is still on Steam and the team plans to update it before 7 January.
A dark fantasy RPG with a town to rebuild
The pitch is “Stardew Valley meets Diablo”, in pixel art. You wake with no memory in Vitromotus, an underground prison world, then fight, rescue survivors and rebuild the town of Emberville. Between fights there's building, crafting, farming and cooking. Combat depends on position and timing, with combos tied to your weapon.
The voice cast includes Matthew Mercer, Jennifer English, Ben Starr, Nick Apostolides and Elias Toufexis, and the streamer CohhCarnage is a co-owner of the project.
What early access will and won't include
Early access is single-player only, so friends hoping to play together will have to wait. Co-op, mods and console versions are planned for version 1.0, which has no date. Cygnus Cross estimates about 18 months in early access, so treat 7 January as the start of a long road.
Steam lists English, European Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Why we'd leave the only offer alone
The one thing on sale this morning is an account from Difmark: €33.59 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€35.10 with fees), Steam account. That means someone else's account shared with you. It isn't yours, you can lose access to it at any time, and we don't recommend it, least of all for a game that hasn't come out and has just changed its launch date.
Here's what we'd do instead:
- Add Emberville to your Steam wishlist.
- Play the demo, and try it again after the update to see whether the bow feels any better.
- Set a price alert so you hear when an offer turns up.
When real offers arrive, they'll be on the page to buy Emberville key. Prices checked on the morning of 31 October.
