PEAK, the co-op climbing game from Aggro Crab and Landfall, arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 this Thursday, 22 October. It has been on Steam since June last year and passed 10 million copies sold within roughly two months. The console versions launch digitally with every update released so far and with crossplay, so a group split between PC and consoles can finally climb together. If you play on PC, the cheapest Steam key this morning is €1.84 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€2.65 with fees).
A mountain, a stamina bar and up to three friends
You play scouts stranded on an island, and the way out is at the top of the mountain in the middle of it. Getting hurt, going hungry or getting cold all eat into your stamina, so you scavenge food on the way up and share out ropes and other climbing gear with the rest of the group. The island changes every 24 hours, which means the route you worked out yesterday won't save you today. Voice chat is proximity based: when a friend falls behind, you stop hearing them. You can play solo, but it's built for groups of up to four.
It started as a month-long game jam in Seoul between Aggro Crab, the Seattle studio behind Another Crab's Treasure, and Landfall, the Stockholm team that made Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. On Steam it has more than 380,000 user reviews, 94% of them positive, which the store labels "Very Positive".
What the PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 versions include
The console versions start with everything PC players have received since launch: the biomes added along the way, such as Mesa, Roots and Gloom, The Final Ascent update and the new items. Crossplay covers every platform, PC included, so your Steam group can invite friends who buy it on console from Thursday.
When we checked, the digital console price hadn't shown up yet in the European stores. There will also be a boxed edition, for PS5 only, out on 9 December at €19.99. Skybound Games is behind it, and the box holds the game on disc with the updates, a printed Scout Passport with stickers and a Buddy Code that gives a second digital PS5 copy to a friend.
PEAK on PC this morning: €7.49 on Steam, less elsewhere
Steam sells it at its usual €7.49 (no fees), with no discount this week. Among the stores we compare, the cheapest Steam key is at Gamivo: €1.84 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€2.65 with fees), global region. Without the coupon, Gamivo lists it at €2.39 before fees. Over the past year a PEAK key has usually cost around €2.30 without fees, so today's offer is a little under the norm.
You may also see Difmark at €1.25 with coupon Gocdkeys (€1.31 with fees). That's a Steam account, not a key. You log into an account someone else controls, the game never lands in your own library, and your friends will see you on a different Steam profile. For a game you'll play online with the same people every week, the key on your own account is worth the extra euro or so.
If you're on PC, there's nothing to wait for
The console release adds no content that PC lacks, and with crossplay you'll be able to join anyone who picks it up on PS5, Xbox or Switch 2. On Steam it already supports controllers, DualSense included, so if your PC is hooked up to the TV the gap is smaller still.
Waiting only makes sense if your whole group plays on console and nobody has a PC that can run it. For two people who each have a PS5, the December box is worth a look, since the Buddy Code covers both of you for €19.99. Until the digital price appears on the PlayStation Store, we can't say which route works out cheaper.
