Steam's Autumn Sale ends today, 8 October, at 10:00 PT (19:00 in Spain), and one of the last good deals in it is Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus at 95% off: €1.44 (no fees) instead of its usual €28.99 (no fees). It is Bulwark Studios' turn-based tactics game where you command the Adeptus Mechanicus against the Necrons.
Key stores are matching Steam rather than undercutting it. This morning the cheapest offer is a Steam Key at Instant Gaming for €1.39 (no fees), five cents less. So the real decisions are elsewhere: whether to add the Heretek expansion, and whether fans should hold out for Mechanicus 2.
Steam or Instant Gaming: five cents apart
Either way the game ends up in your Steam library. We are tracking 57 live offers for it, and none of them is meaningfully cheaper than Steam today. If you have wallet funds sitting in your Steam account, just use them.
Is €1.39 a record low for Mechanicus?
For keys, yes. History figures are store prices without fees or coupons. Over 325 days of tracking, the median for a Mechanicus key is €2.26 and the previous reliable low was €2.00, on 30 April. We had never seen it at €1.39.
If you count every format, the monthly low has been under €2 since July: €1.39 in July, €1.19 in August, €1.15 in September and €1.05 so far in October. Not all of those are Steam Keys, which is why we stick to the key figures above.
On Steam itself the pattern is clear. Full price is €28.99, and the usual sale drops it to €3.47 (early July, then 8 to 15 September). It also sat at €24.80 in the last week of July and of September. €1.44 is the lowest Steam price in our records.
What Heretek adds, and what it costs
Heretek brings in a renegade faction of the Adeptus Mechanicus as a new enemy, along with new missions. The cheapest Steam Key this morning is at YUPLAY for €2.28 (no fees). In our history its median is €2.69 and its low €2.11, on 25 January, both without fees, so you are 17 cents off the best we have seen. We do not have today's Steam price for the DLC.
Base game plus Heretek via keys comes to €1.39 + €2.28 = €3.67 (no fees). Twenty cents more than what Steam normally asks for the base game alone in a regular sale.
Should you wait for Mechanicus 2 instead?
Not at current prices. The cheapest Steam Key for the sequel is at Instant Gaming for €26.69 (no fees), and Steam has it at €31.99 (no fees). Our median for that key is €21.16 (no fees, no coupons), so it is running 26% above its usual level right now.
Driffle lists a cheaper Steam Account at €15.81 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€16.78 with fees). That gets you the login to somebody else's account, not a game in your own library, and we would not buy it. If the first one hooks you, set an alert on Mechanicus 2 and let it come down.
Which option fits you
| Option | Cheapest today | Our take |
|---|---|---|
| Base game only | €1.39 (no fees), Steam Key, Instant Gaming · €1.44 (no fees) on Steam until 19:00 | Enough to find out whether Warhammer tactics are your thing |
| Base + Heretek | €3.67 (no fees): Steam Keys from Instant Gaming and YUPLAY | Our pick: the full first game for under €4 |
| Mechanicus 2 | €26.69 (no fees), Steam Key, Instant Gaming | 26% above its median: set an alert |
Miss the 19:00 cutoff and Steam goes back to €28.99. The key, though, has a median of €2.26 (no fees), so arriving late costs you well under a euro if you buy it from a key store.
