BeamNG's soft-body driving sim is finally leaving PC. BeamNG.drive launches on PS5 on 19 October, and like the PC version it arrives in early access, not as a finished 1.0. BeamNG hasn't given a price for the console version yet, and there's no word on Xbox.
If you've followed the game on Steam, your first question is probably about mods. Short answer: not at launch.
What the PS5 version brings
The console release comes with update 0.40, which adds a new vehicle, local split-screen for up to four players, visual improvements and a round of fixes. Four people on one sofa suits a console crowd well. Whether split-screen also reaches PC isn't clear from the announcement; all we know is that it's part of 0.40.
On the technical side, the standard PS5 uses FSR 3 and the PS5 Pro uses Sony's PSSR. The DualSense's vibration and adaptive triggers are supported too.
Mods, VR and the World Editor stay on PC
Here's the catch. There will be no mods and no VR on PS5 at launch, and the World Editor isn't planned for PlayStation at all. On PC, that's a big part of why people keep coming back to BeamNG years after buying it: community cars, maps and scenarios, plus the tools to build your own.
"At launch" leaves room for mods and VR later on, but nobody has promised them.
How much BeamNG.drive costs on PC this morning
Steam sells it for €22.50 (no fees). The best Steam Key in our comparison is at K4G: €17.19 with the coupon GCDK14DEAL (€19.05 with fees), Steam Key. That's €3.45 less than Steam once fees are included.
Gamivo has a Steam Gift for a little less, €17.03 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€18.62 with fees). It's a different format, and with a gap that small we'd take the key.
Our history figures leave fees out: the key's median price is €19.63, so today's offer sits about 12% below what it usually costs. The lowest we've recorded is €9.46, years ago. In 1,680 days of tracking it has been cheaper on 378 of them.
Eleven years in early access, and players are fine with it
BeamNG develops and publishes the game itself. It went up on Steam in May eleven years ago and hasn't left early access since. Players don't seem to mind: reviews are "Overwhelmingly Positive", with 97% of 389,297 in favour (377,618 positive).
PC or PS5: which one makes sense for you
If you have a gaming PC, there's no reason to wait for 19 October. You can play the full thing today with mods, VR and the editor, and pay less than Steam asks. Prefer to wait for a drop? Set a price alert and we'll email you.
If a PS5 is your only machine, you now have a date but not a price. Split-screen with friends and DualSense support are real pluses on a console. Just don't expect the mod scene that made the game famous on PC.
