Steam moved on No Man's Sky at the start of this week. Since the end of July the store page had asked €58.99 for it, day after day, without a single change; on Sunday it was still that. By Monday it read €23.59, and our own price history dates the drop to exactly that.
The discount is real, and it is the deepest one we have logged on that page since the summer. It is also, if you scroll down our PC page, about twice what the game actually costs.
The sale is €23.59. The cheapest code is €11.78
With our coupon applied, Gamivo has a Global Steam key at €11.78 and its European version at €12.01. K4G follows at €12.26 and Driffle at €12.57. Then three stores land on the same figure — Eneba's European key, HRKGame and Kinguin, all three at €12.73 — with Eneba's Global a whisker behind at €12.76. Above them: CDKeys at €14.19, Instant Gaming at €14.99, CJS-CDKeys at €15.50, G2A at €16.18 and GamesPlanet at €17.22.
Thirteen Steam keys, every one of them under what Valve is charging during its own promotion. The gap at the top is not a rounding error. €11.78 is just under half of €23.59, and what you get for it is the same thing: a code you redeem, a game that stays in your library.
The €4.19 at the very top is somebody else's account
Difmark sits above the whole page at €4.19, and that is not a copy of the game. It is a shared Steam account. You sign into an account that belongs to the seller, No Man's Sky never reaches your own library, there is no code to redeem, and the password can be changed whenever the seller decides. We keep it visible because it is genuinely for sale, but it should not be part of this comparison. Take the accounts out and the page starts at €11.78.
Three stores are asking more than Steam does
Allyouplay and Greenmangaming both have a Steam key at €23.60, one cent above the official sale, and Humble Bundle wants €23.99 for one. Nothing wrong with those shops. Valve simply undercut them this week.
Driffle has a Steam Gift from €23.69, which is a different product altogether: a gift leaves the seller's own account, so it means a friend request, a wait, and a region that has to match. Paying that when a key costs half is hard to defend.
The GOG keys are buying you something else — the version without Steam and without DRM. Eneba has one at €31.49, Kinguin at €33.13, G2A at €47.04. All of them above the current Steam price, so the DRM-free copy is a preference you pay for, not a saving.
| What you are paying for | Cheapest | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Steam key, Global | €11.78 | Gamivo |
| Steam's own discounted price | €23.59 | Steam |
| Steam Gift | €23.69 | Driffle |
| GOG key, DRM-free | €31.49 | Eneba |
| Shared Steam account | €4.19 | Difmark |
Very Positive on Steam, 61 on Metacritic
Steam's verdict here is Very Positive: 259,380 positive reviews out of 312,506. Metacritic reads 61, and that number needs a footnote — it is the launch score. Hello Games put the game out in August nine years ago and has spent the time since rebuilding it through updates, so the player reviews are the more current of the two readings.
Waiting for resale to fall gets you eighty cents
The other side of the page barely moves. Measured on store prices, before our coupon, the lowest Steam key we logged in the past thirty days is €13.81, and over ninety days it is €12.61. Three months of sellers parked around twelve or thirteen euros with nothing resembling a trend.
So the patient version of this purchase does not exist: that ninety-day floor is roughly eighty cents from what you can pay right now. And we are not going to tell you Steam has been cheaper at some earlier point, because our data does not show it and we are not inventing it.
46 live offers from 38 stores, and the choice is short. If you want it in your Steam library, buy No Man's Sky key at €11.78 and let the sale pass. If you want it DRM-free, the cheapest GOG key is €31.49 and at least now you know what the difference costs.
