Devolver Digital and Pigeons at Play have finally put a date on it: Mycopunk leaves early access on 20 October, when version 1.0 goes live. The co-op shooter arrives on PS5 the same day, and it goes straight into the PlayStation Plus catalogue for Extra and Premium subscribers.
It has been in early access since last summer. The most recent big update, back in August, added a swamp zone.
What 1.0 brings, and what the announcement leaves out
The launch update adds a new playable employee (the game's word for the characters you pick), new weapons, a balance patch and achievements. Nobody at Devolver has said a word about what 1.0 will cost, so we won't guess whether the Steam figure moves on the day.
On PS5 the maths is simple. If you already pay for PS Plus Extra or Premium, you can play it at no extra cost for as long as it stays in the catalogue. We don't track the PS5 version, so everything below is about PC.
A Steam copy for half what Valve asks
Steam is back at full price: €14.99 (no fees), Steam Key. The cheapest key we can find is at Gameboost, at €7.41 with the coupon GCDK13 (€7.75 with fees), Steam Key. K4G's headline figure is lower, €7.01 with the coupon GCDK14DEAL, but the payment fee takes it to €8.01 with fees, so it ends up second. Behind it sit Gamivo at €7.00 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€8.24 with fees) and G2A at €8.04 with the coupon GCKG2AH9K2L (€8.33 with fees). All of them are Steam Keys that go into your own library.
You will also see Difmark lower down the page at €4.61 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€4.82 with fees), but that one is a Steam Account: you get the login to someone else's account with the game on it, not a copy on yours. We would rather pay the extra three euros for a key, but it's your call.
How today's key compares with our records
These historical figures are without fees. The key bottomed out at €5.61 on 29 June, and its usual price (the median across our records) is €7.58, so today's €7.41 is only 2% under normal. Over the 188 days we have logged, it has been cheaper on 81 of them. When Mycopunk first went into early access, keys were going for around €10.99.
Steam itself has knocked it down twice: to €9.74 in June and to €11.99 at the end of August. Right now there is no sale on. Even that June discount left Steam above what Gameboost's key costs you today with fees, so there's little point holding out for Valve to cut it again.
Put another way, the key has been cheaper than it is now on a bit under half the days we've tracked. Today's offer is a fair one, but you wouldn't call it a bargain.
Our advice before 20 October
On PC, a key costs half what Steam charges and is close to its usual price, though still a couple of euros off the June low. If you want to get stuck in before 1.0 lands, you aren't overpaying, and you save about seven euros on Steam's €14.99. Every shop we track is on our buy Mycopunk key page. Players seem happy enough with what is already there, too: it sits at "Very Positive" on Steam, with 88% of 4,088 reviews in favour.
If you're in no rush, set a price alert and we'll let you know if it gets back towards €5.61. And if you play on PS5 with Extra or Premium, just wait for 20 October and download it.
