Madden NFL 27 arrives on four platforms on 13 August 2026, and this year the choice actually matters: EA has confirmed that cross-play only covers three of them. Before you buy Madden NFL 27 on PS5, or any other version, it is worth knowing which one quietly locks you out of playing with your friends.
This is the 37th Madden, made by EA Orlando, with Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams on the cover. The headline feature is the new Persona Engine in Franchise, which EA describes as its biggest change yet to player behaviour, contract negotiations, weekly management, news and free agency. The Standard edition RRP is €69.99.
Which platforms Madden NFL 27 launches on — and which it skips
Four versions, all released the same day:

There is no PlayStation 4, no Xbox One and no original Nintendo Switch version. Madden NFL 26 already dropped the last-gen consoles and 27 does not bring them back. If a listing anywhere promises you a PS4 or Xbox One copy, it is either mislabelled or it is not this game.
Cross-play is the real dividing line
EA’s own cross-play FAQ is blunt: cross-play is available only on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 is a launch platform, but it is not in the cross-play pool.
- Cross-play covers online Head-to-Head, Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team and Superstar — between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series only. PC and PS5 players can opt out from the in-game settings.
- Shared progress is far narrower than people assume: only Superstar avatar progression and gear purchases carry across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Franchise and Ultimate Team stay on the platform you bought.
- The MUT Auction House is not shared across platforms. Your Coins and your card market live on one version, and there is no migration.
Xbox Series X|S: same game, cheaper market
The Xbox Series X|S build is the direct counterpart to the PS5 one: full cross-play, the same Franchise Persona Engine, the same Ultimate Team. If your friends are split between PS5 and Xbox, it genuinely does not matter which of the two you buy — they play together.
What does change is the price. Console listings tend to move independently, so it is worth checking both before committing. The Xbox offers below are live and include any coupon already applied.
Nintendo Switch 2: portable Madden, with one big asterisk
EA has said its Switch 2 sports titles keep feature parity with the other consoles “as much as the hardware allows”, and Madden NFL 27 does get performance and quality mode options on Switch 2. Handheld Madden on a plane is a real argument, and for solo Franchise players it is a perfectly good version.
The asterisk is the one above: no cross-play. If you buy on Switch 2 you can only play online against other Switch 2 owners, and that is by far the smallest of the four player pools. For a game whose online modes are the whole point, that is a bigger compromise than any frame-rate difference.
PC: EA app, Steam or Epic — and what your purchase actually is
The PC version is in the cross-play pool, so it plays against PS5 and Xbox Series. It is sold through three storefronts — the EA app, Steam and the Epic Games Store — and the copy you buy is tied to the one it was issued for.
Two formats show up in the comparison below and they are not the same product:
- Key — a code you redeem on your own account. The game is yours, you keep it, and you use your own login.
- Account — you receive credentials for an account that already owns the game. It is usually cheaper, but the copy is not on your profile, and shared-account offers are the ones that cause problems down the line.

Standard, Deluxe or MVP Bundle: what you are really paying for

Is Madden NFL 27 coming to Nintendo Switch or Xbox One?
No. The launch platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. There is no version for the original Switch, for Xbox One or for PlayStation 4.
Does Madden NFL 27 have cross-play on Switch 2?
No. EA limits cross-play to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 players can play online, but only against other Switch 2 players.
When can I actually start playing?
Worldwide launch is 13 August 2026 at 18:00 UTC. Deluxe and MVP Bundle owners start three days earlier, on 10 August, and MVP+ members seven days earlier, on 6 August.

Is the Deluxe Edition worth it?
Only if you play Ultimate Team seriously or you want the three-day head start. The 4,600 Madden Points and the cover-athlete item are the tangible part; everything else is time. For a Franchise-only player the Standard edition is the better buy.
Is it safe to buy from these stores?
