Lethal Company sells for 9.99 dollars on Steam, which makes the sub-4-euro listings you see elsewhere look like a bargain. They are not the same product. Across the live offers we track for Lethal Company on PC there are three different things on sale, and only one of them ends up in your own library. This is what separates them and how each one activates.
The three formats, in plain terms
- Standard - a proper key or a direct store purchase. You redeem it on your own Steam account, it stays there forever, and it is the only format that behaves exactly like buying on Steam. Currently from €.
- Steam Gift - the seller sends the game as a Steam gift instead of giving you a code. The game does end up on your account, but the delivery depends on the seller accepting your friend request or using a gift link. Currently from € (with coupon
GCDKGamivo). - Steam Account - you are handed the login details of an account that already owns the game. You are borrowing someone else's library. Currently from € (with coupon
JULGOC10).
Why the cheapest listing is not a key
The lowest number on the table is a Steam Account listing, and it is roughly a third of what a genuine copy costs. That gap is not a discount, it is a different product. With an account listing you do not own the game, you cannot add your own friends to that account safely, your existing library and playtime are somewhere else entirely, and the seller can change the password. It is also the format most likely to end in a support ticket.
How to activate each one, step by step
Standard key. Open Steam, choose Games from the top menu, then Activate a Product on Steam, and paste the code. The game appears in your library immediately and is tied to your account permanently.
Steam Gift. After purchase the seller either sends a gift link you accept from your browser, or adds you on Steam and sends the gift directly. You have to accept it, and if you already own the game the gift cannot be applied. Delivery is not always instant because a human on the other side has to act.
Steam Account. You receive an email and password. There is nothing to activate: you log in as that account. Anything you unlock stays on that account, not yours.
What a four-player squad actually costs
Lethal Company is built around four-player co-op, and every player needs their own copy. That means the format decision gets multiplied by four. Four Standard copies at € each is the version of this purchase where four separate people each own the game on their own account, keep their own achievements, and can play it again next year without asking anyone for a password.
Four account listings would be cheaper on paper and would leave your group sharing credentials, unable to play simultaneously on separate profiles without friction, and with no ownership at the end of it. For a game that costs about the same as a takeaway coffee run, that trade is a bad one.
Where the region label fits in
You will also see Europe and US labels next to some listings. On a Standard key a regional lock means the code only redeems on an account registered to that region. Global has no restriction. It is a smaller effect than the format difference here, but if you are choosing between two listings only a few cents apart, take the Global one.
Lethal Company activation FAQ
Does everyone in the lobby need to own the game?
Yes. Lethal Company supports up to four players in co-op, and each player needs their own copy.
Is a Steam Gift as good as a key?
Functionally the game does end up on your account, so it is far closer to a key than an account listing is. The trade-off is delivery: it depends on the seller, and it will not work if you already own the game.
Can I move a Steam Account purchase to my own account later?
No. Games bought through an account listing stay on that account. There is no supported way to transfer them.
Which format should I pick?
Standard, unless you have a specific reason not to. It is the only one that leaves the game permanently in your library.
The verdict
The price gap on Lethal Company is almost entirely a format gap, not a shop-versus-shop gap. Pick Standard, check the region label, and compare the sellers side by side on the Lethal Company comparison page - the cheapest Standard listing today is at Steam.
