Nintendo pushed out version 1.2.0 of Pikmin 3 Deluxe on 31 August and announced it the day after. It is free, and on a Nintendo Switch 2 it makes the game sharper on the console screen and on high-resolution televisions. It is the first Pikmin to get any kind of Switch 2 upgrade. If you already own the game, you are done: download and play. If you do not, Nintendo still wants €59.99 for it six years after release, and there is a cartridge for €39.99.
What version 1.2.0 changes on Switch 2
The patch notes are short. In Nintendo's words: "Added support for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution televisions, resulting in a sharper image." That is the whole of the visual upgrade: a cleaner picture in handheld mode and docked. No new content, no changes to the campaign, and no separate Switch 2 edition to buy.
GameShare in Bingo Battle: two consoles, one copy
The second half of the notes matters more if you play with someone else. GameShare has been added to Bingo Battle, the competitive mode. From the title screen, Bingo Battle now offers "Local Play" and "Via GameChat": two players on two consoles, in the same room or at a distance through GameChat, off a single copy of the game. Only one of you needs to own it.
Is there anything to buy if you already have it?
No. The update is free, and on a Switch 2 it applies on its own. On the original Switch the same download arrives and changes nothing: no sharper image, no GameShare, and no cost either. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is the Switch version of the Wii U game with both expansions included and a co-op campaign, and that is what it still is after 1.2.0.
Six years on, the eShop still asks €59.99
Our Switch page has 17 offers. The official ones have barely budged: Nintendo IT at €59.99, Nintendo UK at €58.81. In our readings this year Nintendo has not cut that once. The 2,691 readings we have logged since the game came out show the movement happening elsewhere, in the resale accounts and, lately, in the physical copies.
The €39.99 cartridge from Amazon France
The cheapest way to have Pikmin 3 Deluxe on your own account is a box. Amazon FR has the cartridge at €39.99 today, €20 under the eShop. The other physical offers are Amazon DE at €59.31, Amazon ES at €69.99 and PCcomponentes at €78.32, so the French one is the only one worth the postage.
Switch cartridges have no region lock, so a French box works on a console bought anywhere, and the 1.2.0 update downloads exactly the same. Physical copies do move about on our page, so if you are reading this in a month, check the figure before you order.
eShop codes: the €49.60 one will not work on a European account
Eight offers are eShop codes. Eneba has the cheapest at €49.60, and it is US region. An eShop code only redeems on a Nintendo account from that same region, so on a European account it is useless. The same goes for Difmark Digital Keys at €55.00 and G2A at €57.87, both US.
The cheapest European code is Cdkeys Com at €54.99, five euros under Nintendo. After that: Instant Gaming €58.79 (Europe), Amazon UK €58.81, Nintendo UK €58.81, Nintendo IT €59.99. Digital only makes sense if you specifically want it on the console's storage rather than in the slot, because the cartridge is €15 cheaper than the cheapest European code.
Accounts from €15.95: cheap, and not yours
The five cheapest offers on the page are accounts: Difmark at €15.95, Kinguin at €17.99, Consogame and Getagame at €19.99, G2A at €23.65. You are buying access to a Nintendo account someone else created with the game on it. The game never sits on your own account, and every online feature, GameChat and remote GameShare included, runs through that stranger's account. The new GameShare option, the best thing in this update, is exactly the part an account purchase puts at risk.
Some of the figures on our page already include the store's discount code. The lowest reading in our history since the game came out is €16.98, an account on 28 April, and for the last 45 days the cheapest offer has been €18.99 every day, also an account. The account floor is nothing new.
So: Switch 2 owners who already have the game pay nothing. Anyone who wants to buy Pikmin 3 Deluxe key for a copy of their own is best served by the €39.99 cartridge, with the €54.99 European code as the digital alternative.
