The first Kingdom Rush is down to €0.99 (no fees) on Steam, 90% off, and the sale page says the price holds until 8 October. We have been recording its Steam price since April and this is the lowest it has been.
It also means something that rarely happens with PC games: the official store beats every key shop we compare.
€9.99, then €4.99, now €0.99
Through the spring the game sat at its usual €9.99. The summer sale took it to €4.99 from late June into August, after which it went back up. On 25 September it fell to €0.99.
The drop came a day after Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD launched on Steam, the App Store and Google Play. We can't tell you whether the timing is planned, only that the dates coincide.
Why the resellers can't compete this time
The best Steam Key in our comparison is at Gamivo: €5.67 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€6.86 with fees), Steam Key. That is almost seven times what Steam wants right now.
Our price history doesn't help the key shops either. Those figures leave fees out: the key's median price is €7.34 and its lowest was €3.96 on 8 September. So the cheapest key we have ever seen for this game cost four times today's Steam price.
The lowest third-party price is a Steam Gift from Difmark Digital Keys at €1.92 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.01 with fees). Closer, but still more than double.
A classic with a 97% approval rate
Ironhide Game Studio developed and published it, and it has been on Steam for more than a decade. It's tower defense in its classic form, and players still rate it highly: "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam, with 97% of 14,646 reviews in favour (14,207 positive).
If you already own it, two other entries are also cheap on Steam today: Kingdom Rush Frontiers at €3.99 and Kingdom Rush Origins at €6.24, both with no fees.
What about the new Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD?
Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD came out on 24 September. It's a prequel that takes the series back to Linirea, where a young Vez'nan hasn't yet become the villain. It has 15 towers, 12 heroes, 9 spells and 18 stages.
Steam sells it for €18.44 (no fees). The best key is at Kinguin, €16.19 with the coupon SEPGOC10 (€17.83 with fees), Steam Key. We only have one day of price history, which is too little to say where it's heading. You can set a price alert and wait, or try the free demo on Steam first: it includes 4 stages.
For the original, the call is easy. Buy it on Steam before 8 October. Every store we track is on the page to buy Kingdom Rush Tower Defense key, and Steam is at the top.
