BlizzCon opened on Saturday 12 September with a fair amount of Diablo news, and two of the announcements land this week: a new season on Tuesday and the Nintendo Switch 2 version on the same day. Blizzard is also running a Steam sale until 24 September with the base game at 75% off. If you never bought the expansions, that raises a practical question: what's the cheapest way to end up with all of it?
Season of Hell's Legacy starts on 15 September
It goes live on Tuesday at 9:30 Pacific time. Deckard Cain is back, and he guides you against the three Prime Evils: Baal, Mephisto and Diablo himself. Blizzard has timed it with the series' 30th anniversary. As with every season, it's free content inside the game, so all you need is a copy of Diablo IV.
Also on 15 September, Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection comes to Nintendo Switch 2. It bundles the base game with both expansions, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. We don't track the Switch 2 version, so there's no price for it here.
The Amazon is due next year, with no price attached
The other announcement for current players is a new class. The Amazon arrives in the first half of next year and brings the javelin, a weapon type Diablo IV hasn't had before. Blizzard calls it a class pack but hasn't said what it will cost, or whether it will cost anything at all.
Blizzard also confirmed Diablo V is in development, aimed at a spring release three years from now. It has no bearing on what you buy for Diablo IV this month.
Base game, Lord of Hatred or the Age of Hatred Collection
There are three things to buy on PC, and they overlap more than the names suggest:
- Diablo IV, the base game. You need it for everything else.
- Lord of Hatred, the second expansion. Buying it unlocks Vessel of Hatred, the first one, straight away. It still requires the base game.
- Age of Hatred Collection: base game plus both expansions in one purchase.
In other words, base game plus Lord of Hatred gets you exactly what the collection contains. As for reception, the base game averages 88 from critics on OpenCritic, with 92% recommending it across 178 reviews. Steam players are harsher: Mixed, from 39,879 positive and 17,916 negative reviews. Lord of Hatred sits at Mostly Positive on Steam (671 positive, 274 negative).
Two purchases on Steam come to €42.48
We read these prices on 14 September at around 05:50 UTC. They can change at any time.
During the sale, Steam sells Diablo IV at €12.49, no fees, and Lord of Hatred at €29.99, no fees, after its 25% discount. Together that's €42.48, both in your own Steam library. For context, our key history puts the base game's median at €49.99 (without fees), and in 741 days of tracking it has only been cheaper than today's Steam price on 55 of them.
Now the collection. The cheapest one that stays in your account is a Battle.net gift from Kinguin at €45.07 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€49.01 with fees), so €6.53 more than the Steam pair. Gamivo's gift is close behind at €46.96 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€49.59 with fees). K4G does go lower, €37.13 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€40.69 with fees), but that's a shared Steam account: you log in with someone else's username, and the seller can take the access away. We wouldn't count it as a copy of your own.
There is a cheaper route if you don't mind Battle.net gifts, where a seller sends the game to your account as a present. Kinguin has the base game at €8.34 with coupon SEPGOC10 (€9.35 with fees) and Lord of Hatred at €20.12 with the same coupon (€22.07 with fees). Bought as two orders, that's €31.42 with fees. CJS-CDKeys also sells a Lord of Hatred Battle.net gift at €25.13, no fees.
If all you want is to try the new season, the base game alone will do: €12.49 on Steam or €9.35 with fees for the Kinguin gift. K4G also has a Steam gift at €10.50 with coupon GCDK14DEAL (€11.79 with fees).
If you're going the Steam route, remember the discounts end on 24 September.
On Xbox and PS5
On Xbox, Gameseal has the Age of Hatred Collection at €43.01 with coupon SEAL17CKD (€48.35 with fees) and Eneba at €44.71 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€49.11 with fees), both Xbox keys, Eneba's for Europe. On PS5, PlayStation Store asks €69.99, no fees, for the collection as a PSN Key, and €29.99, no fees, for Lord of Hatred on its own.
