Stupid Never Dies came out on 21 October on PC (Steam) and PS5, and in Japan a day later, on the 22nd. Steam sells it in two editions: the Standard at €49.99 and the Glorious Idiot Edition at €59.99. The extra €10 gets you five cosmetic teddies and nothing else. This morning a Standard Steam Key costs €37.49 (no fees) at Instant Gaming.
A zombie, a frozen princess and a lot of monsters
It's an action RPG from GPTRACK50, an independent studio founded by action-game veterans and headed by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the former Capcom producer behind Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Eiichiro Sasaki directs, and SEGA co-publishes it worldwide. You play Davy, a zombie working his way down through monster-filled dungeons to bring his frozen princess, Julia, back to the land of the living. The world is post-apocalyptic and the tone is pop-punk and deliberately over the top. In combat there's a Davy Burst mode and a Zombie Style state.
The voice acting is English only. Subtitles include Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and a few more.
On Steam it's Mostly Positive: 45 of 58 reviews are favourable (78%). That's a very small sample so far, so the score could still shift.
What the Glorious Idiot Edition adds
You get the game plus the TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload Pack. It's five teddies, and each one changes a visual effect or a music track in one particular situation:
- Big Head gives Davy an oversized head and changes the battle music.
- Chirp Chirp changes the sound of your footsteps in Zombie Style.
- Festival changes the hit effects during Davy Burst.
- Romantic adds graffiti during Davy Burst.
- Splash changes the level-up effect.
There are no new areas, quests or characters, and the pack isn't sold separately. Anyone who bought this edition before the 21st could start playing 48 hours early. Now that the game is out, that perk is gone.
Both editions on Steam Key this morning
The cheapest Steam Keys for the Standard Edition:
- Instant Gaming: €37.49 (no fees), Europe region, valid worldwide.
- Cdkeys Com: €38.09 (no fees).
- GamesPlanet: €40.17 (no fees).
Steam charges €49.99 (no fees), so the Instant Gaming key is 25% cheaper.
For the Glorious Idiot Edition, Instant Gaming has it at €44.89 (no fees), GamesPlanet at €48.21 (no fees) and Greenmangaming at €50.99 (no fees). The official price is €59.99. Put the cheapest key for each edition side by side and the gap is €7.40, all of it for a cosmetic pack.
Every offer for both editions is on the page to buy Stupid Never Dies key for PC, the only version we list.
Steam Gifts and accounts
A Steam Gift is a copy sent to you through Steam itself: you accept it and the game goes into your library. Gifts can be region-locked, so check before you pay. Gamivo has an EU Gift for €36.94 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€39.22 with fees) and Kinguin one for €37.58 with OCTGOC10 (€40.92 with fees). Once the fees are added, both cost more than the Instant Gaming key.
The cheapest option overall is a Steam account: Difmark at €30.23 with the Gocdkeys coupon (€31.59 with fees), or Key4Games at €35.52 (€37.14 with fees). An account gets you the login to someone else's Steam account that already owns the game. You can play it, but it never ends up in your own library. We'd pay the extra and get the key.
Which edition makes sense for you
For most players, the Standard: €37.49 as a Steam Key instead of €49.99 on Steam, for exactly the same game. Go for the Glorious Idiot Edition only if you like cosmetic extras and the remixed music, knowing it adds no content.
We've only been tracking the key's price for 44 days, pre-orders included, which isn't enough to tell how often or how far it tends to drop. If you'd rather wait for a discount, set a price alert for Stupid Never Dies and we'll email you when it drops.
