Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War went into the Xbox Game Pass catalogue yesterday, on 8 September. If the subscription is already on your account, the shopping is over before it starts: install it and play. Everything below is for the rest of us, and for anyone who wants the game to stay in their profile long after it leaves that catalogue.
Our Xbox page is holding 58 live offers from 18 stores this morning. The first one costs €8.01, and it is not a copy of the game.
Two borrowed logins open the Xbox page
G2A starts things off at €8.01, with the code GCKG2AG3X7P taking 10% off the €8.90 the shop shows. Difmark sits right behind at €8.22, coupon Gocdkeys, 16% off €9.79. Both of them sell an account: a username and a password that belong to somebody else, the game parked in their library, you playing inside it. It works fine until the afternoon the owner changes that password, and then there is nobody left to complain to.
They are not all at the top, either. G2A has another one at €15.62 and K4G two more at €16.30 and €17.51, sitting halfway down between perfectly ordinary codes. Every offer says what it is; it is the amount people read first.
€12.69 for a code that lands in your own profile
Eneba has the cheapest genuine Xbox code at €12.69 with Gocdkeys10, down from €14.10. Gamivo then takes three places in a row with GCDKGamivo: €13.11 for a US code, €13.21 global, €13.44 for Europe. Driffle asks €13.69 global with GOCDKEYS10. After that Kinguin at €14.23 with SEPGOC10, Gameboost at €14.30 with GCDK13, G2A at €14.82 with GCKG2AG3X7P and Eneba again at €15.00 for Europe and the UK.
You redeem those yourself and the game is yours afterwards. The distance between that and the cheapest thing on the page is €4.68.

Global, Europe, UK and US all sit on the same page
Region is the detail most people skip. Gamivo is asking three different amounts for the same game purely because of where the code is meant to be redeemed, ten cents between the US entry and the global one. A US code does not always go through on a European account, and when it bounces you are dealing with the store's support desk rather than Microsoft.
Each offer states its region and we show it as it comes. Eneba's €15.00 covers Europe and the UK; its €12.69 is global. Kinguin and Gameboost cover global and Europe at once. None of this is a trap. The ordering simply has no idea which console the reader owns.
Boxes and big chains start at €36.43
PCcomponentes turns up twice, at €36.43 and €51.65. Playerland asks €67.49, Media Markt Spain €69.99, and YUPLAY the same €69.99 on a US region. Against the €12.69 code from Eneba, that first box already costs just under three times the money, and Media Markt's €69.99 is five and a half times it, for a game this old.
Two oddities are worth naming before somebody clicks one by accident. Instant Gaming lists a Cross Gen Bundle at €20.69. Eneba and Gamivo both carry a combined PC and Xbox pack, €42.96 and €43.06, which only makes sense if you genuinely play on both machines.
Six monthly floors between €14.10 and €15.55
We hold 3,744 readings of this page, the oldest of them from August six years ago. The cheapest Xbox code we logged each month, before any coupon: €15.55 in April and €15.48 in May, both Eneba; €14.24 in June and again in July, Amazon Germany; €14.10 in August and €14.10 so far this month, Eneba once more.
Half a year inside €1.45. The catalogue arrival has not shifted it at all, which is the usual outcome: a subscription changes how many people bother to buy, while the resellers carry on asking what they were already asking. The floor for the whole page this month is €8.90 before coupons, and that is the G2A account again.
The subscription is access; the code is the game
Game Pass lets you in while you keep paying and while the title stays in the catalogue. Titles leave. On the day this one does, a subscriber has nothing installed and the person who spent €12.69 carries on playing. We do not publish what the subscription costs, so you will get no figure for it from us.
For a campaign you may well restart in a couple of years, and for the multiplayer, the maths is short: buy Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War key at the Eneba entry and forget the catalogue. For one weekend with the story, the subscription does the job you need.
One gap we should say out loud. We have no Steam verdict and no press score on file for this game, and the PC page carries no Steam data either. So there is no review number coming from us here. What we do have is the history above.
What the other three pages look like
The PC page is thin: ten offers, and almost all of them are Steam Gift or account. Gamivo has a Steam Gift for Europe at €11.08 with GCDKGamivo, Driffle a US Steam Gift at €12.53 and a global one at €15.28, G2A at €19.76. The only standalone Steam code on it is CJS-CDKeys at €58.14, which tells you how little supply is left over there.
PS5 has ten offers and opens with a Difmark account at €9.16 with Gocdkeys, while the PlayStation Store sells the PSN code at €19.79. PS4 has twelve: another Difmark account at €10.14, an Amazon UK disc at €26.47, and €59.99 straight from Sony. Xbox is where the real choice is, provided you read the label above the amount.
