Already paying for Game Pass? Then don't buy The Royal Writ at all: it's in there on PC and Xbox for as long as it stays in the catalogue. Without a subscription, a PC Steam Key runs €4.20 with coupon GCDK13, €4.40 once the payment fee lands, and that one is yours for keeps. On PS5 and Switch you're stuck with your console's own store, and those prices aren't in our comparison.
What arrived on 10 September
The Royal Writ landed on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch on 10 September. Xbox Wire confirmed it went into Game Pass the same day, on the Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass tiers. On Steam it has been on sale since August last year.
A deckbuilder where winning costs you cards
It's a deckbuilding roguelike with a medieval setting and art lifted straight out of an illustrated storybook. You lead an army of woodland animals through two campaigns. Save Sloth Studios developed it, Yogscast Games publishes it.
The twist is in how attacking works. The units you deploy march on the enemy base, and any card that gets there is destroyed for the rest of the run. Winning means feeding your own deck into the fire as you go.
Steam says Very Positive, from 337 positive and 84 negative reviews, which is still a small sample.

Kinguin's shelf price is the lowest of the eight, and its payment fee pushes it back to third. We counted 19 Steam Key offers in all, plus one Steam Gift, at Gameseal, for €13.38 with coupon SEAL17CKD (€15.04 with fees), which is dearer than going straight to Steam.
Our Steam Key history, fees excluded, has a median of €4.43 and a low of €2.00 on 15 June. Today's cheapest base prices sit just under that median: an ordinary day for this game rather than a good one.
Steam charges half what three other stores ask
Steam itself sells The Royal Writ for €7.39, nothing added. Green Man Gaming, GamersGate and Allyouplay all want €14.79 for the same Steam Key, also fee-free, which leaves Steam at half what the three of them ask. If you'd rather buy straight from Valve, that's a fair price to pay, even with the keys above coming in lower.
The €1.75 offer is a shared account
Sort the page by price and the first thing you meet is a shared Steam account at Difmark: €1.67 with coupon Gocdkeys, €1.75 with fees. It doesn't buy you a copy. It buys you the use of somebody else's Steam account, on their profile, for as long as they choose to let you.
With a real Steam Key at €4.20 with coupon GCDK13 (€4.40 with fees), we'd walk past it. If you want the game for keeps, buy The Royal Writ key from one of the stores above.
