If you already pay for Game Pass, you don't need to buy The Royal Writ: it's included on PC and Xbox for as long as it stays in the catalogue. If you play on PC without a subscription, a Steam Key costs €4.20 with coupon GCDK13 (€4.40 with fees) and the game is yours to keep. On PS5 and Switch you'll have to go through your console's own store, and we don't have prices for those versions.
What arrived on 10 September
On 10 September The Royal Writ came out on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The same day, as Xbox Wire confirmed, it joined Game Pass on the Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass tiers. PC players have been able to buy it on Steam since August last year.
A deckbuilder where winning costs you cards
It's a deckbuilding roguelike with a medieval setting and art that looks lifted from an illustrated storybook. You lead an army of woodland animals through two campaigns. Save Sloth Studios developed it and Yogscast Games publishes it.
What sets it apart is how attacking works. The units you deploy march towards the enemy base, and any card that reaches it is destroyed for the rest of the run. Winning means giving up part of your own deck along the way.
On Steam it's rated Very Positive, from 337 positive and 84 negative reviews. That's a small sample.

Kinguin has the lowest base price, but its fee drops it to third. We counted 19 Steam Key offers in all, and one Steam Gift at Gameseal for €13.38 with coupon SEAL17CKD (€15.04 with fees), which costs more than buying on Steam directly.
Our Steam Key history, without fees, has a median of €4.43 and a low of €2.00 on 15 June. Today's lowest base prices sit a little under that median.
Steam charges half what three other stores ask
Steam itself sells The Royal Writ for €7.39, no fees. Green Man Gaming, GamersGate and Allyouplay all want €14.79 for the Steam Key, also with no fees, so at the moment Steam costs half as much as those three. If you'd rather buy straight from Valve, that's a fair price, even if the keys above still come in lower.
The €1.75 offer is a shared account
Sort everything by price and the cheapest thing you'll see is a shared Steam account at Difmark: €1.67 with coupon Gocdkeys (€1.75 with fees). That doesn't get you a copy of your own. You log in to somebody else's Steam account, the game never appears on your profile, and access can be taken away.
With a Steam Key available at €4.20 with coupon GCDK13 (€4.40 with fees), we'd skip it. If you want the game for keeps, buy The Royal Writ key from one of the stores above.
