Cooking on a PS5 is mostly a sofa thing. Overcooked turned it into the game you put on when friends come round, and a lot of what came after kept the idea: one kitchen, too many orders, someone shouting about the onions. But there's a quieter side too, with bakeries to restore, a bus that serves food around an archipelago and a short story about an Indian mother in Canada that you play through her recipes.

To build the list we took every game Steam tags as Cooking, looked for its PS5 version on Gocdkeys and dropped the ones where the kitchen is just a side activity, like farming and life sims with a stove somewhere in the house. Fifteen games were left with offers in stock this morning. Fourteen are PS5 versions; the fifteenth, Cooking Simulator, only has a PS4 version on our site, and we kept it because PS4 games run on a PS5. The scores below are the Steam reviews of each game's PC version, because that's where we can count them. Four of the games have none in our records, and there we say so instead of guessing.

On PS5 the cheap price is almost always an account

This morning not one store had a PSN Key for a European account for any of these fifteen games. The two codes we found, for Corner Kitchen and Fruitbus at Kinguin, are for the US PlayStation Store and won't redeem on a Spanish, French or German account. What you'll see instead is three kinds of offer:

  • PlayStation Store: the official price, no fees. The game goes on your own account and stays there.
  • Account: Key4Games and Difmark sell you the login to a PlayStation account that belongs to the seller and already has the game. You sign in on your console, set it as the primary PS5 for that account and play from your own profile. The game is never in your name, and if the seller takes the account back, it's gone. We go through the steps and the risks in our guide to PSN keys versus PSN accounts.
  • Disc: for Overcooked! All You Can Eat and Chef Life there are boxed copies on Amazon, with no fees. You need a PS5 with a disc drive.

An account was the cheapest option on fourteen of the fifteen games, but by very different margins. On Venba it saves you almost twelve euros. On Lemon Cake it saves 48 cents. The PlayStation Store is running a sale until 4 November that has pushed several of these games down to a few euros, and on Magical Bakery the account costs more than three times the official price. Where the store price is close, we'd buy it there.

Kitchens for two, three or four on the same sofa

Overcooked! All You Can Eat is the Team17 collection that gathers Overcooked!, Overcooked! 2 and all their extra content, remastered. That means hundreds of levels of kitchens that fall apart while you cook in them, local or online co-op, and an Assist mode that gives recipes more time and lets you skip a level when the group gets stuck. The PlayStation Store version includes both the PS4 and PS5 copies. We don't have a Steam score for this collection; for reference, Overcooked! 2 on its own is Very Positive on PC, with 90% of 62,543 reviews. The PlayStation Store asks €39.99, no fees, which is a lot next to the boxed copy: Amazon FR sells the disc for €20.00, Amazon UK for €20.23 and Amazon ES for €22.99, all with no fees. Key4Games has an account for €8.66 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€9.30 with fees), and Difmark one for €10.07 with Gocdkeys (€10.52 with fees). It's also on our list of the best local co-op games on PS5, with the other games to play two to a screen.

Cook, Serve, Delicious! is the first game in Vertigo Gaming's series. You start with a zero-star café and work your way up to a five-star restaurant, juggling a menu of thirty foods and hundreds of recipes, cooking contests on TV and impatient customers. Local co-op works with one player cooking and the other speeding up orders, and the Battle Kitchen expansion, included, takes it to four players. We don't have the Steam score for this first game. It's on sale on the PlayStation Store at €4.79, no fees, down from €15.99. Key4Games' account costs €3.46 with GOCDKEYS15 (€3.87 with fees) and Difmark's €4.02 with Gocdkeys (€4.20 with fees). Less than a euro separates the account from a copy of your own, so the choice here is easy.

SEDAP! A Culinary Adventure, from Kopiforge, mixes the co-op kitchen with combat. You travel together through a fantasy version of Southeast Asia, fighting your way across an unexplored world between one chaotic kitchen and the next. It's the lowest-rated co-op game here, Mostly Positive with 71% of 524 Steam reviews. The PlayStation Store charges €19.99, no fees. Key4Games has an account for €10.11 with GOCDKEYS15 (€10.82 with fees) and Difmark for €11.75 with Gocdkeys (€12.28 with fees).

Running the restaurant: fast food, haute cuisine and robot chefs

Corner Kitchen Fast Food Simulator, by Purple Heads Games, gives you an almost empty burger joint in a nineties American diner style. You buy equipment, cook, serve, and with the money hire up to four kinds of staff: a runner who restocks, a cook, a cleaner and a cashier. Later you can open a second floor and add tills. Its 2D art and voices are AI-generated, which some players will want to know. Steam: Very Positive, 85% of 410 reviews. The PlayStation Store asks €14.99, no fees. Key4Games has an account for €5.52 with GOCDKEYS15 (€6.02 with fees) and Difmark for €6.42 with Gocdkeys (€6.71 with fees). Kinguin's PSN Key, €8.83 with OCTGOC10 (€9.88 with fees), is the US one.

Restaurant Tycoon: My Cooking Empire is the arcade option: short time-management levels, more than a thousand of them, across nine kitchens from street food to sushi, and over 500 dishes. Between levels you decorate your house with what you've earned. Only eight people have reviewed it on Steam, all positively, which tells you little. The PlayStation Store charges €11.99, no fees, Key4Games' account €4.33 with GOCDKEYS15 (€4.78 with fees) and Difmark's €5.03 with Gocdkeys (€5.26 with fees).

Cooking Simulator is the PS4 game on this list and the closest thing to working an actual shift. Big Cheese Studio gives you a professional kitchen where everything obeys physics: ingredients change temperature, look and taste depending on what you do to them, from slicing potatoes to flipping a steak or boiling a soup. There are more than 60 recipes and 120 ingredients, plus a story mode that takes your restaurant from nothing to famous. It's also the most reviewed game here, Very Positive with 84% of 17,877 Steam reviews. The PlayStation Store sells it for €19.99, no fees. Difmark has an account for €5.37 with Gocdkeys (€5.61 with fees), and Kinguin another for €20.38 with OCTGOC10 (€22.35 with fees), more than the official price.

Chef Life: A Restaurant Simulator, by Cyanide and published by Nacon, aims higher: a haute cuisine restaurant chasing Michelin stars, where you design dishes, organise the brigade and get plates out on time, judged on taste, texture and presentation. Steam: Very Positive, 83% of 2,300. We had no PlayStation Store price for it this morning, so the copy you keep is the disc: Amazon DE has the Special Edition for €27.19 and Amazon UK the standard one for €29.75, both with no fees. The accounts are much cheaper, €5.77 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€6.28 with fees) and €6.71 with Gocdkeys at Difmark (€7.01 with fees).

Neon Noodles is a puzzle game more than a restaurant. In a cyberpunk city where food is a status symbol, you program robot chefs to cook 250 dishes from 400 ingredients, recording their movements so the machines repeat them. Anyone who has played Opus Magnum will recognise the idea. Steam: Mostly Positive, 76% of only 89 reviews. The PlayStation Store has it on sale for €9.99, no fees, down from €19.99, with the PS4 and PS5 versions in the same purchase. Difmark's account costs €8.39 with Gocdkeys (€8.77 with fees), barely a euro less.

Recipes that carry the story

Venba is the best-rated game on the list: Very Positive, 93% of 2,459 Steam reviews. Visai Games tells the story of an Indian mother who moves to Canada with her family in the eighties. Her recipe book is damaged on the way, and you rebuild the lost recipes, idlis, dosas and biryani, while the family grows up and changes around the kitchen table. It lasts an hour or two. The PlayStation Store charges €14.99, no fees. The account is very cheap: €2.70 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€3.07 with fees) and €3.14 with Gocdkeys at Difmark (€3.28 with fees). For a game you'll finish in an evening, the risk of an account matters less than usual, but the PlayStation Store copy is the one that stays on your account. Here are the cheapest offers right now if you want to buy Venba key or account:

And here's what customers say about these stores on Trustpilot:

  • Difmark — 4.1 / 5 over 14,000+ reviews.
  • Playstation Store — 1.2 / 5 over 2,000+ reviews.

High Times is the odd one. You work at The Hotbox, a doughnut shop where each doughnut carries a mood enhancer, and the job is to pick the right one for every troubled customer: courage for one, comfort for another. You roll, fry and decorate, but the weight is in the conversations, with more than 30 characters, six of them romanceable, full English voice acting and several endings. Steam: Very Positive, 89% of 182. The PlayStation Store asks €23.99, no fees, the dearest official price after Overcooked. Key4Games has an account for €13.86 with GOCDKEYS15 (€14.74 with fees) and Difmark for €16.12 with Gocdkeys (€16.85 with fees).

The Witch's Bakery came out on 14 October. You play Lunne, a young witch who opens a bakery in present-day Paris and uses her bread to heal the emotions of the people she meets. Days are split in three: the shop by day, Montmartre and the Grands Boulevards in the afternoon, upgrading magic and decorating at night. It's too new for us to have a Steam score. The PlayStation Store price is €19.99, no fees, and Key4Games sells an account for €10.83 with GOCDKEYS15 (€11.57 with fees).

Bakeries, a bus full of fruit and a kitchen in space

Lemon Cake starts with a ruined, haunted cake shop that you repair with the help of a friendly ghost. You keep bees, a cow and chickens, grow fruit in the greenhouse, bake, choose each day's menu and serve coffee to customers so they stay a while longer. There's even a cat café to build. We don't have its Steam score. It's the cheapest game on the list: the PlayStation Store has it at €2.99, no fees, down from €19.99 until 4 November. The accounts don't beat that by much, €2.16 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€2.51 with fees) and €2.51 with Gocdkeys at Difmark (€2.62 with fees). Buy it from the store.

Magical Bakery, a single-player game published by SOEDESCO, puts you in an enchanted bakery as an apprentice of the Magical Baking Academy. You mix, knead, bake and decorate sweets with a touch of magic that solve customers' problems, and every Sunday an examiner comes to check your progress. Steam: Mostly Positive, 75% of 61. The PlayStation Store sells it for €5.99, no fees, instead of €29.99. The only account, at Difmark, costs €20.15 with Gocdkeys (€21.06 with fees), so ignore it.

Fruitbus, from Krillbite Studio, is a restaurant on wheels. You drive around the islands of an archipelago, forage for fruit and vegetables, cook for whoever you meet and kit out your bus, from racing wings to a giant banana. Steam: Very Positive, 86% of 978. The PlayStation Store has it at €6.99, no fees, discounted from €19.99. Key4Games' account costs €5.05 with GOCDKEYS15 (€5.53 with fees) and Difmark's €5.87 with Gocdkeys (€6.13 with fees). Kinguin's €8.91 PSN Key with OCTGOC10 (€9.97 with fees) is for North America, and dearer anyway.

Space Chef, published by Kwalee, mixes restaurant management, light survival and life sim in a galaxy called the Horseshoe Nebula. You hunt ingredients on alien planets, many of which try to eat you first, and cook more than 140 dishes in a customisable space caravan. Steam: Mostly Positive, 73% of 105. The PlayStation Store charges €12.49, no fees. Key4Games sells an account for €6.86 with GOCDKEYS15 (€7.42 with fees) and Difmark for €7.97 with Gocdkeys (€8.33 with fees).

The PlayStation Store sale changes the picture for five of them. On Lemon Cake, Cook, Serve, Delicious!, Fruitbus and Neon Noodles the official price is less than a euro and a half above the account, and on Magical Bakery it's below it; the discount ends on 4 November. On the others the gap is wider, from about five euros on Space Chef to more than fourteen on Cooking Simulator, and €30.69 on Overcooked if you compare the account with the PlayStation Store rather than the disc. That's the trade to weigh: a lower price against a game that isn't in your name.

Which of these should be your first PS5 kitchen?

If there are several of you on the sofa, Overcooked! All You Can Eat, and if your PS5 has a disc drive, the €20.00 copy at Amazon FR is the best way to own it. For two players on a tight budget, Cook, Serve, Delicious! costs €4.79 on the PlayStation Store. Playing alone and want a proper kitchen? Cooking Simulator. If you'd rather have a story, Venba is short and the best-rated game here. And for a quiet evening, Lemon Cake at €2.99 is hard to argue with while the sale lasts.

On a computer as well? We've made the same list of cooking games on PC, with Steam prices and keys.

Prices checked on the morning of 23 October.
