A farming game on Xbox can mean two very different evenings. In one, you spend an hour deciding which field to fertilise and if the budget stretches to a bigger harvester. In the other, you water the turnips, go fishing and remember it's a neighbour's birthday. This list has both, plus a few games where the farm is what you do between dungeons. To build it we took every game Steam tags as Farming Sim, kept the ones with an Xbox page on Gocdkeys and offers in stock this morning, and ended up with 16.
Xbox doesn't publish a player rating we could compare, so the scores below are the Steam ratings of each game's PC version.
Xbox Key, account or Microsoft Store: what each price buys you
Most of these games come in three forms, and they aren't the same purchase:
- Xbox Key: a 25-character code you redeem on your own Microsoft account, so the game is yours. We quote keys for the Europe or Global region, which both work on a European account. You'll see keys from other regions for less, but they make you change your account's region or use a VPN, and we don't recommend them.
- Account: stores like Key4Games or Difmark sell you access to someone else's Microsoft account that already owns the game. You add it to your console, set the console as its home Xbox and play from your own profile. The game isn't in your name, and if the seller recovers the account, it's gone. Our guide to Xbox keys versus Xbox accounts covers the steps and the risks.
- Microsoft Store: the official price, with no fees.
Accounts are the cheapest option for every game here, sometimes by a silly margin: a Stardew Valley account costs less than a euro. We give their price so you know it exists, but where a key is available at a fair price, the key is what we'd buy. Two games, Farm Together 2 and Little Witch in the Woods, had no Xbox Key in stock this morning; for those you get the account and the official price.
Tractors, fields and farms to share with friends
Farming Simulator 25 is the one for people who want to run a farm as a business. GIANTS Software's simulator has licensed machinery from real brands, three maps (North America, Central Europe and East Asia) and a whole cycle of sowing, harvesting, storing and selling when the price is right. The Asian map brings rice and water buffalo. On Xbox it's a Series X|S game only; there's no Xbox One version. Steam: Very Positive, 87% of 41,037 reviews. The cheapest European Xbox Key is at Eneba, €21.24 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€23.61 with fees), against €29.99 on the Microsoft Store. Key4Games sells an account for €9.38 with GOCDKEYS15 (€10.06 with fees). If you also play on a computer, note that the cheapest PC copies are activated on GIANTS rather than Steam; we explained what that means in our post on Farming Simulator 25 for PC.
Farming Simulator 17 is the older one, made for Xbox One, so it also runs on Series X|S. It has two maps, Goldcrest Valley in the US and Sosnovka in Eastern Europe, fewer crops and dated graphics, and it's still plenty if all you want is to drive a tractor. Steam players actually rate it higher than 25: Very Positive, 93% of 23,098. The catch is the price. Kinguin's European Xbox Key costs €14.85 with OCTGOC10 (€16.38 with fees), while the Microsoft Store asks €19.99, so the key saves you less than four euros. Difmark has an account for €6.54 with Gocdkeys (€6.83 with fees). For about seven euros more, Farming Simulator 25 is the better buy.
Farm Together, from Milkstone Studios, is farming without the pressure. There's no energy bar and no deadline: crops grow in real time, even while you're not playing, so you plant, switch off and come back later to harvest. Friends can join your farm online and work it with you. Steam: Very Positive, 93% of 17,657. Gamivo has the European Xbox Key for €11.48 with GCDKGamivo (€12.87 with fees), the Microsoft Store charges €19.99, and Key4Games sells an account for €3.26 with GOCDKEYS15 (€3.66 with fees).
Farm Together 2 keeps the same idea and gives you more to shape: you can terraform hills, decorate and cook inside your house, and customise your avatar and tractor. Online co-op goes up to 16 players. Same score as the first: Very Positive, 93% of 4,512. Nobody had an Xbox Key in stock this morning. Key4Games sells an account for €1.81 with GOCDKEYS15 (€2.14 with fees), and the Microsoft Store asks €25.99, which for now is the only way to have it on your own account.
Village life: crops, neighbours and something on the stove
Stardew Valley is where most people start, and for good reason. ConcernedApe's game hands you your grandfather's old farm outside Pelican Town: you clear the land, plant for each season, raise animals, fish, explore the mines and get to know the town, to the point of marrying someone in it if you like. Up to four people can play on the same farm. It's the best-rated game on the list, Overwhelmingly Positive with 98% of 901,154 Steam reviews. Gameseal has a Global Xbox Key for €8.47 with SEAL17CKD (€9.51 with fees), compared with €14.99 on the Microsoft Store. Difmark's account costs €0.92 with Gocdkeys (€0.96 with fees), but this is a game people keep coming back to for years, and we'd want it on our own account. These are the five best offers right now if you want to buy Stardew Valley key:
Before picking a store, here's what their customers say about them on Trustpilot:
- Instant Gaming — 4.7 / 5 over 833,000+ reviews.
- Kinguin — 4.6 / 5 over 120,000+ reviews.
- Eneba — 4.4 / 5 over 312,000+ reviews.
- K4G — 4.3 / 5 over 17,000+ reviews.
- Gameseal — 4.3 / 5 over 16,000+ reviews.
Disney Dreamlight Valley, from Gameloft, follows the same routine with Disney and Pixar characters. A curse called the Forgetting has emptied the valley, and you bring back Mickey, Moana, Remy and the rest one by one, each with a chain of quests, while you farm, fish, cook and decorate. Steam: Very Positive, 92% of 22,292. The European Xbox Key costs €25.04 with OCTGOC10 at Kinguin (€27.38 with fees), against €39.99 on the Microsoft Store; Key4Games has an account for €13.00 with GOCDKEYS15 (€13.84 with fees). The expansions are sold separately, so check you're buying the base game.
Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game, by Wētā Workshop, gives you a hobbit hole in Bywater. You grow vegetables, fish, gather ingredients, cook and invite the neighbours round for meals, and there's no fighting at all. It's the gentlest game here and also the lowest rated, though still Very Positive: 81% of 3,269. Kinguin sells the European Xbox Key for €23.67 with OCTGOC10 (€25.90 with fees). The Microsoft Store asks €34.99, and Difmark has an account for €8.81 with Gocdkeys (€9.21 with fees).
Little Witch in the Woods, from Sunny Side Up, is about Ellie, an apprentice witch who settles near a village in the forest. You gather ingredients, grow plants and brew potions to help the villagers with their problems. Pixel art and no hurry. Very Positive, 89% of 11,839. There was no Xbox Key this morning: Key4Games sells an account for €7.94 with GOCDKEYS15 (€8.55 with fees), and the Microsoft Store charges €19.99.
Wanderstop, from Ivy Road and published by Annapurna, is more about the story than the soil. Alta, a fighter who has never lost and suddenly can't win, ends up looking after a tea shop in a forest clearing. You tend the garden, use what grows to brew tea and listen to whoever stops by. Very Positive, 92% of 2,973. Kinguin sells a Global Xbox Key for €9.00 with OCTGOC10 (€10.07 with fees), less than half the €23.49 on the Microsoft Store. Key4Games has an account for €5.77 with GOCDKEYS15 (€6.28 with fees).
Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge is, as the name says, about frogs. You restore a wetland: dig ponds so the water flows again, plant native species near them, and the plants draw insects, which draw frogs. What you harvest becomes goods you sell to improve the refuge. Only 230 people have reviewed it on Steam, 86% positively (Very Positive). The European Xbox Key costs €16.59 with Gocdkeys10 at Eneba (€18.56 with fees), about a euro and a half below the €19.99 on the Microsoft Store. Key4Games sells an account for €6.14 with GOCDKEYS15 (€6.67 with fees).
Farms with swords, a mech and a sushi bar
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is the newest of the farming RPGs here; it reached Xbox Series X|S in February. Marvelous set it in Azuma, a land inspired by old Japan, where you rebuild villages, tend your fields, fight monsters in real time and get to know the villagers, romance included. Steam: Very Positive, 88% of 2,994. G2A sells a European Xbox Key for €24.34 with GCKG2AM4E7H (€24.63 with fees), well under half the €59.99 the Microsoft Store asks. Key4Games' account costs €13.57 with GOCDKEYS15 (€14.43 with fees).
Rune Factory 4 Special is the remaster of the 3DS game. You land in the town of Selphia, end up in charge of it, and between harvests you head into dungeons where you can tame monsters that will then work on your farm. There's romance here too. Very Positive, 88% of 2,082. It's the cheapest key on the list: Gamivo, €3.67 with GCDKGamivo (€4.55 with fees), against €29.99 on the Microsoft Store. Difmark's account costs €1.18 with Gocdkeys (€1.23 with fees).
Everafter Falls, from SquareHusky, opens with a twist: your character wakes up to find their previous life was a simulation and starts again in a village. From there it's farming, fishing, foraging and fighting through four dungeons, with a pet that helps on the farm and drones that take over jobs like harvesting. It has split-screen co-op. Very Positive, 86% of 439. Here the key hardly saves anything: Eneba sells the European Xbox Key for €15.77 with Gocdkeys10 (€17.67 with fees), and the Microsoft Store asks €18.99. Difmark has an account for €6.43 with Gocdkeys (€6.72 with fees).
Forager, by HopFrog, drops you on a tiny island with a pickaxe. You gather, craft, buy new plots of land and fill them with farms and machines that work for you, with some combat and puzzle dungeons along the way. There's always something new to unlock ten minutes away, which makes it hard to put down. Very Positive, 89% of 35,591. Kinguin has the European Xbox Key for €10.17 with OCTGOC10 (€11.33 with fees), the Microsoft Store charges €19.99, and Key4Games sells an account for €2.02 with GOCDKEYS15 (€2.36 with fees).
Lightyear Frontier, from Frame Break, takes the farm to another planet. You land on an alien world with a mech that plants, waters and harvests, build your homestead and explore with up to three friends online. There's no combat. It's for Xbox Series X|S only and launched in early access (Game Preview, on Xbox). Very Positive, 83% of 4,325. G2A sells a European PC/Xbox key for €25.02 with GCKG2AM4E7H (€25.31 with fees), and Key4Games an account for €6.58 with GOCDKEYS15 (€7.13 with fees). We don't have a Microsoft Store price for it.
Dave the Diver is on this list because Steam tags it as a farming game, but it's mostly about diving and running a sushi restaurant. By day you dive in the Blue Hole to catch fish, by night you serve them. Further into the story you get a small farm for rice and vegetables and a fish farm that supply the restaurant, but they're a side job. If farming is what you're after, this isn't the game; if you just want a very good game with a bit of farming in it, it is: Overwhelmingly Positive, 96% of 144,126. G2A has a European PC/Xbox key for €13.26 with GCKG2AM4E7H (€13.55 with fees), against €19.99 on the Microsoft Store, and Key4Games sells an account for €5.77 with GOCDKEYS15 (€6.28 with fees).

The gap between the key and the official store varies a lot. With Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma you save more than €35, and with Rune Factory 4 Special about €25. With Kamaeru and Everafter Falls the difference is under a euro and a half, and with Farming Simulator 17 under four: for those, buying from Microsoft or waiting for a sale makes as much sense as a key.
Which one we'd buy, and for whom
If you've never played a farming game, start with Stardew Valley: a Global Xbox Key costs €9.51 with fees, and it lasts for months. If you're after machinery and planning, Farming Simulator 25 at €23.61 with fees; we'd only pick 17 if you specifically want the older one. For a child, or a Disney fan, Disney Dreamlight Valley. For a relaxed farm with friends, Farm Together. And if fields on their own bore you, Rune Factory 4 Special costs €4.55 with fees as a European key and mixes the farm with dungeons; Guardians of Azuma is the newer and bigger option, though it costs a good deal more.
Play somewhere else too? We've made the same list for the best farming games on PC and the best farming games on Switch.
