The Switch isn't the first console people think of for space games, yet the eShop has a solid handful: a universe you can fly across from end to end, a planet to dig through with friends, Capcom's newest shooter on the Moon and a few arcade shoot 'em ups that still play the old way. For this list we started from the games Steam tags as Space, kept the ones with a Switch page on Gocdkeys and offers in stock this morning, and dropped anything with a negative Steam rating. That left 15. Two of them, PRAGMATA and High On Life 2, are Switch 2 games and won't run on the original console; we flag them every time.
Nintendo doesn't publish player ratings, so the scores below are those of each game's PC version on Steam.
Why almost every price here is an account
If you've bought PC or PlayStation games with us, the Switch will look different. For these 15 games, the stores we compare don't sell European eShop codes. What they sell is mostly this:
- Account: Key4Games, Difmark, K4G and GamesPSN give you the email and password of a Nintendo Account that already owns the game. You link it to a profile on your Switch, download the game and play. It's cheap because the game stays on someone else's account, and if the seller ever takes that account back, you lose it. Our guide on how to activate a Nintendo account with a game walks you through it.
- eShop code: a code you redeem on your own Nintendo Account, so the game is yours. For these games the only ones in stock are US codes, which need an American eShop account. We mention them where they exist, but we don't recommend them for a European account.
- Boxed copy: a few games have a physical edition at Amazon, PCComponentes or Media Markt. It costs more, but it's yours for good, and you can sell it on.
One thing to watch with Switch 2 games: an account that owns PRAGMATA or High On Life 2 is no use on a first-generation Switch. The reverse does work, as most Switch games also run on the Switch 2.
Planets to explore, dig up and survive on
No Man's Sky by Hello Games is the most complete space game you can carry around. Every planet in its generated universe is different, you can land on all of them without a loading screen, and after years of free updates there are bases to build, freighters, missions and online multiplayer. On Steam, the PC version is rated Very Positive, 84% of 318,552 reviews. The cheapest account is at Key4Games, €10.83 with the coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€11.57 with fees). Difmark's costs €12.59 with Gocdkeys (€13.16 with fees). If you'd rather own the game, Amazon France has the boxed version for €37.97 (no fees). These are the five best offers right now to buy No Man's Sky for Switch:
And this is what customers of those stores say about them on Trustpilot:
- K4G — 4.3 / 5 over 17,000+ reviews.
- Difmark — 4.1 / 5 over 14,000+ reviews.
- Amazon FR — 1.7 / 5 over 15,000+ reviews.
ASTRONEER, from System Era Softworks, is more relaxed and plays well with up to four people. You land on a planet with a tool that sucks up and reshapes the ground, so you dig tunnels, collect resources and build trucks, rockets and bases, with no rush and no enemies to speak of. Steam: Very Positive, 91% of 119,220. Key4Games sells the account for €14.08 with GOCDKEYS15 (€14.97 with fees), and Difmark for €16.37 with Gocdkeys (€17.11 with fees).
The Abandoned Planet is the odd one out: a first-person point-and-click adventure by Dexter Team Games, in the tradition of Myst. An astronaut is stranded on an alien world that seems empty, and you work out what happened through its puzzles. Only 199 people have reviewed it on Steam, but 93% liked it (Very Positive). Account at Key4Games: €7.94 with GOCDKEYS15 (€8.55 with fees).
Shooters, roguelikes and a lab full of parasites
PRAGMATA is for Switch 2 only. Capcom's game puts you on a research station on the Moon as Hugh, an astronaut, travelling with Diana, an android girl. While he shoots, she hacks the enemies' armour through a small grid puzzle, and the whole fight depends on combining the two. It has the highest score on this list: Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam, 96% of 34,149. Prices vary a lot. GamesPSN has an account for €17.39 with GOCDKEYS16 (no fees), while Key4Games charges €30.34 with GOCDKEYS15 (€31.96 with fees). The boxed edition is €54.99 (no fees) at PCComponentes. Eneba also lists an eShop code for €39.28 with Gocdkeys10 (€43.21 with fees), but it's for the US eShop. Not in a hurry? Set a price alert for PRAGMATA and we'll email you when it gets cheaper.
High On Life 2 is also Switch 2 only. It's the sequel to Squanch Games' comedy shooter where the guns talk, argue and comment on everything you do. It has the lowest score of the 15, Mostly Positive, 70% of 2,274, which is still a pass but tells you the humour doesn't land for everyone. Key4Games' account costs €21.67 with GOCDKEYS15 (€22.90 with fees); the boxed version is €36.99 (no fees) at PCComponentes.
Risk of Rain Returns remakes Hopoo Games' 2D roguelike. Your ship crashes on an alien planet and you have to get off it, but the difficulty goes up with every minute on the clock, so you can't take too long collecting items. It's much better with friends online. Steam: Very Positive, 89% of 24,842. At €7.22 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€7.80 with fees), it's one of the cheapest accounts here.
STAR WARS Bounty Hunter is Aspyr's remaster of the PlayStation 2 and GameCube game starring Jango Fett, set before Attack of the Clones: jetpack, two blasters and a lot of bounties. It feels its age, and fans of the period don't seem to mind: 83% of 1,169 on Steam (Very Positive). Account for €10.83 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€11.57 with fees); the boxed copy at Amazon UK costs €32.23 (no fees).
Endoparasitic, by Miziziziz, is the strangest and cheapest of the lot. You play a man who has lost three limbs, dragging himself through a laboratory overrun by parasites, and every action, even reloading, is a separate input. It's clumsy on purpose and it works: Very Positive, 93% of 2,891. Key4Games has the account for €5.05 with GOCDKEYS15 (€5.53 with fees).
Role-playing and strategy: dice, fleets and cards
Citizen Sleeper by Jump Over the Age is almost a novel you play with dice. You're a Sleeper, a human mind copied into an artificial body, who has fled to a run-down space station. Each day you roll and spend your dice on jobs, favours and repairs, and the station's people slowly let you in. It has one of the best scores here: Very Positive, 92% of 8,352. Account at Key4Games: €10.83 with GOCDKEYS15 (€11.57 with fees).
STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY R is Square Enix's remake of the PlayStation RPG, with pixel-art characters on 3D backgrounds and real-time combat. You choose between Claude and Rena at the start, and that changes parts of the story. Steam: Very Positive, 92% of 3,257. Key4Games sells the account for €19.50 with GOCDKEYS15 (€20.63 with fees), and Amazon UK the boxed copy for €41.24 (no fees).
Crying Suns, from Alt Shift, is a tactical roguelike in which you command a battleship across a fallen empire. Fights happen on a hex grid where you send out squadrons while the ship's weapons charge, and you can pause at any moment to think. Every run is different. Very Positive, 85% of 3,163. Account for €10.83 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€11.57 with fees).
Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection brings together Capcom's three Nintendo DS Star Force games, with Geo Stelar, the alien Omega-Xis and card battles on a small grid. Few people have reviewed it on Steam, but almost all of them liked it: Overwhelmingly Positive, 96% of 669. Account for €20.22 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€21.39 with fees).
Arcade shooting and anti-gravity racing
GRADIUS ORIGINS is Konami's collection of the arcade Gradius and Salamander games, the side-scrollers with the power-up bar that made the Vic Viper famous. Steam: Very Positive, 92% of 244. Account for €19.50 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€20.63 with fees).
Earthion is a new horizontal shoot 'em up, but it was made by Yuzo Koshiro's studio, Ancient, for the Mega Drive's hardware, and it looks and sounds like it. Very Positive, 95% of 483: the best-rated shooter on this list. Account for €10.83 with GOCDKEYS15 at Key4Games (€11.57 with fees).
Redout 2 by 34BigThings is the closest thing to F-Zero on this list: anti-gravity racing at a speed where you have to read the next corner before you see it. Steam: Very Positive, 82% of 1,186. Key4Games sells the account for €15.89 with GOCDKEYS15 (€16.86 with fees).

The gaps between account sellers are worth a look. For most of these games, Key4Games and Difmark are within one or two euros of each other. PRAGMATA is the exception: the GamesPSN account costs about half the Key4Games one, so check that column before you buy.
Our pick if you only buy one
For most people it's No Man's Sky: €11.57 with fees for the account, and enough universe for months. If you'd rather play with friends without anyone shooting at you, take ASTRONEER. Citizen Sleeper is the one for a story, and Earthion or GRADIUS ORIGINS if all you want is to shoot things for half an hour. If you have a Switch 2, PRAGMATA is the best-rated game here, but it's also where the price changes most from one store to another. And if you'd rather not depend on someone else's account, look at the boxed copies we mentioned: they cost more, but nobody can take them away.
