Kyle Thompson's new game came out yesterday, 22 September, on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. Well Dweller also went into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one, so plenty of people can already play it without buying anything. For everyone else, the real question is which version to get and where it costs least.
A 2D metroidvania lit by a match
You play as Glimmer, a little bird carrying a match that works both as a light source and as a weapon. The map is interconnected, and the game mixes exploration, puzzles, fights and bosses; you get stronger by collecting trinkets along the way. An average playthrough runs between 10 and 15 hours.
Thompson made Crypt Custodian and Islets, and on Steam he is listed as both developer and publisher of this one. Early reception is good: "Very Positive", with 96% of 100 reviews in favour. That is a small sample, which is what you'd expect from a game that has been on sale for a single day.
Game Pass subscribers are already covered
With Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass you can play it at no extra cost for as long as it stays in the catalogue. If it ever leaves, you lose access unless you buy it. We don't track the PS5 or Xbox versions, so the prices below are for PC and Switch only.
On PC, Kinguin comes in €1.09 under Steam, fees included
Steam is selling it for €12.11 (no fees). We can't tell whether that is a launch discount, so we won't call it one. The cheapest key we found this morning is at Kinguin: €9.88 with the coupon SEPGOC10 (€11.02 with fees), Steam Key, Global. With the payment fee added you pay €1.09 less than on Steam, and the key activates in your own Steam library like any other copy.
Every PC store we track is on our buy Well Dweller key page. You won't need a powerful machine either: the minimum specs are Windows 10, 4 GB of RAM, a GeForce GT 220 or Radeon HD 4650 and 1 GB of disk space. No recommended specs have been published, but with numbers like these an old laptop will do.
Switch: the eShop or a shared account
The eShop price is €19.99, according to the announcement; that figure comes from the publisher, not from our price comparison. Only one offer we track comes in below it, at Difmark: €12.59 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€13.64 with fees), Account. That saves you €6.35 with fees, but be clear about what it is. A shared account means you log in to someone else's Nintendo account that has the game on it; you don't get a copy on your own.

Our pick for each platform
If you have Game Pass, just download it. To own it on PC, Kinguin's key at €11.02 with fees is the cheapest route today, against Steam's €12.11. On Switch, the Difmark account costs less, but the eShop is where you get a copy that stays yours.
