Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School comes out on 5 November on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, where it will be on Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store. It's also on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one. Publisher iam8bit and developer Coin Crew Games made the announcement, and the PS5 version is the news here: until now it hadn't been announced.
The first game put you in a school for escape artists, solving one escape room after another, alone or with a friend. According to the studio, more than four million people have played it. The sequel keeps the idea and changes what happens between the rooms.
An open campus between the escape rooms
In the first Escape Academy you went from one room to the next. Now there's a campus you can wander around freely between them, with secret passages, puzzles hidden around the grounds and side quests. When you're ready, you step into the timed escape rooms, which are still the core of the game.
Co-op for two, and a mode with no timer
The whole campaign can be played in co-op for two, on split screen or online, as in the first game. There's also an optional mode without the timer, if you'd rather solve things at your own pace. Two DLC packs are planned after launch. We don't have verified system requirements or more detail yet, so we'll leave it there.
What to do until 5 November
The Steam demo has been updated, and your progress carries over to the full game. It's free, so that's the obvious first step. If you have Game Pass, there's nothing to buy: it will be in the catalogue on launch day.
The only offer we have for Escape Academy 2 right now is a Steam account in pre-order at Difmark, €33.59 with coupon Gocdkeys (€35.10 with fees). There are no keys yet. An account is the login for someone else's Steam account that will have the game, and for a game that isn't even out, we wouldn't touch it. Wait for keys to appear instead: set a price alert for Escape Academy 2 and we'll email you when the price drops to what you choose.
The first Escape Academy for about two euros
If you haven't played the original, this is a good week to do it. As a global Steam Key, Gameseal has it for €1.65 with SEAL17CKD (€2.18 with fees), Gamivo for €1.52 with GCDKGamivo (€2.32 with fees) and CDKeys.com for €2.39 (no fees). Steam charges €16.79 (no fees). The median price we've recorded is €8.85, and today is the lowest we've seen it; our price history doesn't include fees.
Steam players rate it Very Positive, 86% of 1,131 reviews, and it averages 81 from 26 critic reviews on OpenCritic. It's co-op for two as well, so it's a cheap way to see whether your usual partner enjoys this kind of game before the sequel arrives. The page to buy Escape Academy key has every PC offer.
On consoles the gap is smaller. For Xbox, CDKeys.com sells a PC/Xbox key for €4.19 (no fees), against €19.99 on the Microsoft Store. On PS5, the PlayStation Store asks €19.99 (no fees), and Key4Games has an account for €10.83 with GOCDKEYS15 (€11.57 with fees).
Prices checked on the morning of 20 October.
