SYNDUALITY Echo of Ada is losing its online service. Bandai Namco and Game Studio Inc. have confirmed that their PvPvE extraction shooter with mechs becomes an offline-only game from next May. The exact date the servers go down will be announced in March.
Nobody who owns it loses the game. An offline version, PvE and played solo, will arrive as a free update. How much of your progress makes the jump is another matter, and that part depends on you.
What Bandai Namco has announced
Until the servers close, the online game keeps running. After that, only the offline version is left. You don't buy it separately: owners get it through a normal Steam update, at no extra cost.
The March announcement is the next firm date. That's when we'll know the exact day in May.
Your save and purchases: the transfer window
Part of your save data and some of the items you've bought can be carried over to the offline version. The catch is that it only happens if you migrate during an official transfer period. Miss it and you start the offline game with a fresh save.
The dates of that window haven't been announced yet. If you've put real hours into the game, keep an eye on the official news so it doesn't slip past you.
SYN COINS and the Deluxe and Ultimate editions
SYN COINS, the game's paid currency, go off sale on 18 December. Once activated they last 150 days, and you can spend them until the final shutdown. If you're tempted to top up before the 18th, buy only what you know you'll spend. Unused coins are money gone, and whatever you get with them only carries over in part, and only through the migration.
The Deluxe and Ultimate editions leave the Steam store on 17 December. On Steam the Standard costs €39.99 and is just the game. The Deluxe (€69.99) adds the Magus Costume School Uniform, the Deluxe Drifter Pass Voucher and the Magus Remake Ticket. The Ultimate (€99.99) brings two School Uniform outfits, one of them purple, plus the Ultimate Drifter Pass Voucher, the Magus Remake Ticket and the Mystere Magus Type Exchange Ticket.
All of those extras are cosmetics or progression for the online game. Bandai Namco hasn't said what happens to them in the offline version.
What it costs this morning
We're tracking 60 offers from 17 stores. The cheapest Standard edition is at YUPLAY for €3.49 (no fees), Steam Key. Cdkeys has it for €3.99 (no fees), and Kinguin for €3.51 with the coupon SEPGOC10 (€4.14 with fees), both Steam Key too. That's under a tenth of the Steam price.
The bigger editions cost only a little more. The Deluxe is at Eneba for €5.39 with the coupon Gocdkeys10 (€6.40 with fees), Steam Key. For the Ultimate, Kinguin asks €7.06 with the coupon SEPGOC10 (€7.97 with fees) and Gamivo €7.27 with the coupon GCDKGamivo (€8.51 with fees), both Steam Key.
Difmark also lists a Steam Account for €2.76 with the coupon Gocdkeys (€2.88 with fees). That's a shared account, not a copy on your own profile. In a game that will ask you to migrate account data to keep your progress, we'd take the key.
In our key-store history (store prices, no fees or coupons) the lowest was €2.04, at Kinguin on 27 June. Over the last week it has moved between €2.99 and €3.05. The historical median sits around €10.16.
Is it worth buying now?
Know what you're getting first. Steam reviews are "Mixed": 40% positive, 1,325 out of 3,313. It hasn't won players over, and the online side, the reason most people pick up an extraction shooter, has a few months left.
Still, at €3.49 the Standard costs about as much as a coffee, and it stays in your library as an offline game after May. If you're curious about the mechs and don't mind playing alone, it's a small bet. The Deluxe and Ultimate are harder to justify, since everything they add is tied to online play and nobody knows yet what survives. With fees, though, the gap over the Standard is roughly €3 to €4.50, so if the outfits appeal it won't hurt much.
