In Sword of the Sea you play a Wraith standing on a floating blade, the Hoversword, and you surf it across dunes and water. It moves like skateboarding or snowboarding: you build speed, carry momentum and land tricks. Since 29 October it's also on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Until now it was only on PS5 and PC, on Steam and Epic, where it launched in August last year. We cover the money at the end, or you can see more information on Sword of the Sea prices.
Riding a sword across a dried-up world
The world has lost its sea and you bring it back as you go. Between the long runs there's platforming, and ruins and hidden areas that reward leaving the main path.
If you liked sliding down the dunes in Journey, this is that idea with far more speed and a lot more tricks.
From the people behind ABZÛ and The Pathless
The developer is Giant Squid, the studio of Matt Nava, who was art director on Journey before making ABZÛ and The Pathless. Austin Wintory, who also scored Journey, wrote the music.
PlayStation players may already know it, as it was in PS Plus Extra and Premium from the first day. If you have a subscription, check whether it's still included before you pay.
The new Xbox and Switch 2 versions
Both were announced at Nintendo's Indie World, and Fictions publishes the game on these two consoles. We don't have a price for either in our comparison yet, so look it up on the Microsoft Store or the Nintendo eShop.
Steam beats the resellers on this one
For most games we'd point you to a reseller. Here we won't. Steam sells it for €20.29 (no fees), Steam key, and no key on PC is cheaper. GOG is close behind at €20.82 (no fees), GOG key. The cheapest Steam Gift with fees is G2A's, €21.14 with the coupon GCKG2AF1P6K (€21.43 with fees), so it costs you more than going to Steam directly.
That €20.29 is also the record low. The median for the Steam key is €28.99, both figures without fees, and it hasn't been cheaper in the 137 days we've tracked. On PS5 it's cheaper still: €17.49 (no fees), PSN, in the PlayStation Store, so if you own both a PS5 and a PC, the console version saves you €2.80.
