Epic's free game for Halloween week is Sorry We're Closed, a survival horror from à la mode games and Akupara Games that has a 98% positive rating from 1,676 reviews on Steam. You can claim it on the Epic Games Store from Thursday 29 October at 4pm CET (3pm in the UK) until Thursday 5 November. Epic hasn't confirmed the exact closing hour, so don't leave it until the last day.
Until the 29th, the free games on Epic are still Home – A Unique Horror Adventure and Sker Ritual, so don't go looking for it before then.
How to add it to your Epic library
Sign in to store.epicgames.com or the Epic launcher, open the game's page once the giveaway is live and click "Get". Checkout shows €0; click "Place Order" and you're done. You don't need to add a card.
Claim it before the giveaway closes on 5 November and it stays in your library for good, even if you don't install it until months later.
One thing to be clear about: this is an Epic copy. It runs through the Epic launcher, you can't activate it on Steam and it doesn't come with a Steam key. If your whole library is on Steam, read the last section before you decide anything.
A horror game with fixed cameras and a third eye
You play Michelle, in a London where demons walk around as if they owned the place. The camera is fixed in each room, as in the original Resident Evil games, and moves as you walk from one shot to the next. When you need to shoot, the view switches to first person through Michelle's "third eye", which also shows things that are hidden from normal sight, and that's what most of the puzzles hang on.
It's short: around six to eight hours. It came out on 14 November two years ago and has an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, 98% of 1,676 reviews. Besides PC, it's out on Xbox, PS4, PS5 and Switch.
The Steam version costs more than usual today
Steam sells it for €16.65 (no fees). The cheapest Steam key this morning was at Eneba: €3.96 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€4.84 with fees).
That sounds cheap until you look at its history. We've been tracking the key for 325 days, and on 218 of them it cost less than it does today. Its median is €2.24 and the lowest we've seen is €2.23, on 16 April, both without fees. In other words, it usually sits at a little over two euros, and right now it's more than double that once fees are added.
You'll also see a Steam account at Difmark for €1.67 with coupon Gocdkeys (€1.75 with fees). That's the login for someone else's account that already owns the game: it never reaches your own library, and the seller can take it back. We wouldn't buy it.
Free on Epic or wait for Steam: what we'd do
If you have an Epic account, or don't mind making one, claim it between 29 October and 5 November and that's the end of it. A game this well reviewed for nothing is easy.
If you want it on Steam no matter what, don't pay €4.84 today for something that has spent most of the year at around €2.24. Set a price alert and we'll let you know when it drops back. When it does, our page has every offer to buy Sorry We're Closed key for Steam.
Prices checked on the morning of 27 October.
