Evil Empire released the Anniversary update for The Rogue Prince of Persia on 17 September, a year after the full version came out in August. It is free for anyone who already owns the game, and there is a fair amount in it: new weapons and tools, a new element, and two modes aimed squarely at people who replay the same run until they know it by heart.
A day later, a deals site reported the game at 75% off to mark the occasion. The discount is real. It just is not on Steam, where most PC players will look first, and where the game is back at full price. Here is what the update adds, where each price actually sits, and what our own records say about waiting.
What the Anniversary update adds
Two new weapons and four new tools, one of them a trap that lets you dodge an attack and finish the enemy off in the same move. Ice arrives as a new element: it freezes and slows enemies down, which is handy in the rooms where half a dozen of them pile in at once.
The bigger additions are modes. Combat Zones throw waves of enemies at you, each one tougher than the last, and the Arena gets new challenges. Speedrun Mode comes with built-in timers, so nobody needs a stopwatch on a second monitor any more. Parkour Mode puts the fighting aside and is all about wall-running, routes and agility.
Evil Empire also went back over the difficulty. The first biomes are shorter but the game is harder overall, the Palace boss has been redesigned and is a good deal nastier, and the other bosses have been rebalanced. If you finished it last year, the opening hour will not play the way you remember.
The game is out on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, Switch 2 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store), and it is included in Ubisoft+.
The 75% cut sits on Ubisoft's own shop
Price trackers place that 75% discount on the Ubisoft Store, as part of the sale Ubisoft is running for its 40th anniversary. We do not track the Ubisoft Store for this game, so we are not going to quote a euro figure or an end date we have not checked ourselves. Look at the final price there before deciding.
One practical detail: a copy bought on the Ubisoft Store activates in Ubisoft Connect. You do not get a Steam key, and the game will not appear in your Steam library. If that suits you, this sale is very likely the cheapest way to own the game this week.
Steam is at €29.99, eight days after its last sale
No discount on Steam today: €29.99 (no fees), Steam Key. Reviews there are Very Positive, 89% of 2,394.
The timing is what hurts. Our Steam price history (store prices, no fees) shows three sales in five months:
- €9.75 from 8 May to 13 June.
- €8.99 from 25 June to 21 July, the lowest Steam price in our records.
- €11.99 from 28 August to 11 September.
The rest of the time, and today, €29.99. The last sale ended on 11 September, so anyone who held off until the update to buy on Steam missed it by about a week.
Given that pattern, paying €29.99 on Steam right now is the least attractive of your options. If it has to be the Steam version, set a price alert and you will hear about it when it drops back towards €9-12.
What the resellers have: accounts and gifts
There are eleven live offers on our page, and not one of them is a standard reseller key. The five cheapest once payment fees are added:
- Difmark: €6.71 with coupon Gocdkeys (€7.01 with fees), Steam Account.

The first three are Steam Accounts. You receive the login for somebody else's account with the game on it. It never goes into your own library, and if that account is closed or its password changes, you lose access. We would rather own a copy, but the choice is yours: €7.01 with fees is a long way below €29.99, and some players only want to get through it once.
A Steam Gift does end up in your library: another account sends you the game as a present and you accept it. The trouble here is the price. The cheapest, at K4G, comes to €29.12 with fees, 87 cents under Steam. Every other gift on the page costs more than Steam itself, up to €37.39 with fees for the one at Difmark Digital Keys. Paying a reseller more than Valve charges for the same game is hard to justify.
One more figure you may run into: our monthly history, which mixes every shop and format, shows a low of €5.17 in September (no fees, no coupon). That was an account, not a copy you keep, so do not treat it as the going price.
Buy now or wait?
If Ubisoft Connect does not bother you, the Ubisoft Store sale is the place to go this week. Check the final price there; it is the only shop where the 75% applies.
If you want it on Steam, wait. Three sales in five months, the last one only just over, and €29.99 in between. Keep the alert on, and once the price is where you want it, you can buy The Rogue Prince of Persia key from our page or go straight to Steam.
