From Thursday 5 November, Flotsam is the free game on the Epic Games Store. The giveaway opens at 16:00 UTC (17:00 CET) and runs for a week, closing on Thursday 12 November at the same time. It hasn't started yet: until the 5th, Epic's free game is Sorry We're Closed.
What Flotsam is about
Flotsam is a survival city builder set in a world that has gone under water. Your town floats, and you build it out of the rubbish you drag from the sea. Your "drifters" need clean water, food and decent health, and in between you head out to explore ruins and islands, pick up survivors and research new tech.
It's made by Pajama Llama Games and published by Stray Fawn Publishing. It spent six years in early access, from 26 September six years ago, before the full release landed on Steam on 4 December last year. Steam reviews are Very Positive: 84% of 2,057, and 88% of the 69 recent ones.
How to claim Flotsam on Epic
You need an Epic Games account, which costs nothing to set up. Once the giveaway is live, open Flotsam's page in the Epic store, on the website or in the launcher, click "Get" and confirm the order. The game is added to your Epic library and stays there for good.
You don't have to install it that week. Claim it before 12 November and download it whenever you like. Epic is also giving away Morte's pack for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms at the same time, so pick that up too if you play it.
Flotsam on Steam costs more than it used to
On Steam, Flotsam is €22.99 (no fees) with no discount running. Our data puts the key 28% above its historical median of €17.99 (no fees). The price went up with the full release; during early access it sold for €18.99 (no fees).
No reseller key was cheaper than Steam this morning. Other stores do sell Steam Gifts, and their live prices are below.
You may also spot a Steam account at Key4Games for €9.38 with coupon GOCDKEYS15 (€10.06 with fees). We don't recommend it. What you get is the login to someone else's shared account, so Flotsam never becomes yours and you're relying on that access to keep working.
Flotsam free on Epic, or wait for a Steam sale?
If you don't mind which launcher it lives in, claim it on Epic that week and you're done.
If you want it on Steam for the achievements, the Steam Deck or to play alongside friends, we'd hold off at €22.99 (no fees). The lowest the key has ever been is €7.49 (no fees), back in July six years ago. Set a price alert and we'll email you when it drops, or compare every offer to buy Flotsam key on the game page.
Prices checked on the morning of 3 November.
