Amazon Prime members can claim Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit for free on PC from 1 October to 4 November, through Amazon Luna, the service that used to be called Prime Gaming. The copy is for the Epic Games Store, not Steam. Here is how to claim it, what you keep afterwards, and what the game costs if you would rather have it on Steam.
What you get with Prime this month
Two PC games went up on 1 October: Into the Pit for Epic and DOOM, id Software's reboot that came before DOOM Eternal, as a GOG code. Both can be claimed until 4 November. Once claimed they are yours, even if you cancel Prime later.
Into the Pit is a 2D pixel-art adventure by Mega Cat Studios, based on the Fazbear Frights books. You play Oswald, a boy who jumps into a ball pit at a run-down pizzeria and comes out in the eighties, in the days of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. It is built around exploring, small puzzles and hiding from the animatronics over five nights, and it is not long.
Claiming it step by step
- Go to luna.amazon.com and sign in with the Amazon account that has Prime.
- Open the section with games to claim and pick Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit.
- Click the claim button. The first time, Amazon asks you to link your Epic Games account and sends you to Epic to approve it.
- Open the Epic Games Launcher: the game should already be in your library. If Amazon shows you a code instead, enter it under Redeem Code in your Epic account.
DOOM works the same way, except the code goes to GOG and you enter it at gog.com/redeem.
An Epic copy stays on Epic
You cannot move the game to Steam afterwards. You will launch it from Epic's app, achievements stay on Epic, and nothing shows up on your Steam profile. One more thing: Epic gave Into the Pit away last Halloween. If you grabbed it then, check your library first, because you already own it and Prime adds nothing.
Steam Gift or Steam Account: what each one gives you
None of the stores we compare sell a Steam Key for this game right now. The cheapest option that ends up in your own library is a Steam Gift from Gamivo, at €10.10 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€11.45 with fees). A gift is a copy sent to your Steam account, and after you accept it, it stays there.
Difmark is cheaper at €3.77 with coupon Gocdkeys (€3.94 with fees), but it is a Steam Account: you log in to someone else's profile, the game never reaches your library, and you lose it if the owner changes the password. The first three offers below are accounts of that kind.
The last time we recorded Steam's own price, on 10 September, it was €19.50 (no fees).
Has the Steam Gift been cheaper?
Not at Gamivo since we started tracking it in late April. Through the summer that gift sat between €15 and €22, in September around €16, and on 1 October it dropped to €11.34, the lowest we have logged there. These are store prices without coupons or fees. On Steam, players rate it Overwhelmingly Positive, 95% of more than 10,000 reviews.
Prime, Epic or Steam?
With Prime and no problem using Epic, just claim it before 4 November. Without Prime, or if you want it next to the rest of your Steam games, the gift is the cheapest legitimate way. All stores are on the page to buy Five Nights at Freddy's Into the Pit key.
Prices checked on the morning of 3 October.
